ST. PETERSBURG - A sell-out crowd of more than 36,000 watched as the Tampa Bay Rays were narrowly defeated 6-5 by the Seattle Mariners during the April 8 season opener at Tropicana Field.

It is the third consecutive year the Rays have sold out the home opener and the earliest a Rays' home game has sold out since the inaugural game in 1998.

"It is an encouraging indication of the community's excitement for the Rays, and it's a great way to begin the 2008 home season," said Rays President Matt Silverman.

The Rays and Mariners return to the field on Wednesday at 7:10 p.m. The final match between the two teams this week is set for Thursday, April 10, at 12:40 p.m.

The Rays begin a three-game series at home against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday, April 11, at 7:10 p.m. The other two games are Saturday, April 12, 7:10 p.m., and Sunday, April 13, 1:40 p.m.

The Rays play the New York Yankees at home on Monday and Tuesday, April 14-15, 7:10 p.m.

Tickets are available at the Tropicana Field Box Office, Rays Tampa Office & Pro Shop, via the Rays official Web sites at www.raysbaseball.com or www.raysbeisbol.com, all Ticketmaster locations, or charge by phone at 727-898-7297, 813-287-8844 or 407-839-3900.
