Sexual predator arrested in Clearwater
Article published on Friday, June 6, 2008
CLEARWATER - Pinellas County Sheriff’s detectives arrested a registered sexual predator on May 5 for engaging in sexual activity with a 17-year-old girl.

Detectives said in a press release that they received information on June 5 that the suspect, Ariquer Diaz Diaz, 32, had developed a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female. During their investigation detectives determined that the suspect had engaged in consensual sexual intercourse numerous times between March and June of 2008.

Detectives said that all of the sexual activity took place inside the suspect's permanent residence at the Continental Inn located at 12810 U.S. 19 N. in the unincorporated area of Clearwater.

According to detectives, photographs depicting the victim performing a sexual act on the suspect were recovered from the victim's cellular telephone.

The suspect was arrested at about 5 p.m. on Thursday in the parking lot of the Super Wal-Mart located at 8001 U.S. 19 N. in Pinellas Park. Detectives said that during an interview he denied committing any crimes. He was arrested on one count of sexual performance by a child and four counts of unlawful sexual activity with certain minors.

The suspect was deemed a sexual predator in June of 2003 after being convicted of having unlawful sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl. He is no longer under Florida Department of Corrections confinement, supervision or any other court imposed sanction, however he has registered as a sexual predator with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office as required by law.

Deputies assigned to the Sexual Predator Offender Tracking Unit verified his residency on May 29, 2007 and they circulated sexual predator notification flyers in the surrounding area at that time. Since then deputies have conducted six unannounced address verification visits and at no time has the suspect been found in the company of a minor.

The investigation continues.
