Gas prices increase closer to $4

PINELLAS COUNTY – Independence Day passed and gas prices are still averaging below $4 in the metro area of Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater, according to AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

As of July 5, the average price of a gallon of unleaded gas in Pinellas set a new record of $3.996 – up 3/10ths of a cent from the day before and only 4/10ths of a cent below $4. Orlando continues to report the lowest pump price in the state for unleaded, averaging $3.981.

The metro area of West Palm Beach and Boca Raton retains the top spot for the highest average price of $4.166 a gallon for unleaded, followed by Miami at $4.152 and Fort Lauderdale at $4.142.

Diesel fuel remains below the record price of $4.761 set on June 18 with an average price of $4.757.

The average price for a gallon of unleaded in Florida, as of July 5, was $4.065. Diesel was going for $4.779.

The national average on July 5 was $4.103.
