Pinellas schools students win 11 student video awards

PINELLAS COUNTY – Pinellas County Schools won five first-place awards, four second-place awards, one third-place award and an honorable mention at the 2008 state Jim Harbin Student Media Festival. The awards will be presented in Kissimmee in September.

The awards recognize excellent work in Florida by student media producers.

The following are the Pinellas County winners:

• First place for a K-2 documentary: Sutherland Elementary for “The Great Race: Iditarod,” by Laney Rupert, Skylar Koster, Josie Garcia and Michal Grzebyk.

• First place for a K-2 public service announcement: High Point Elementary for “Flush and Wash,” by Brooklyn Nestrud, Heidi Dryden, Karmivis Febres, Christina Lopez, and Kayla Caban.

• First place for 3-5 instructional: High Point Elementary for “Be Prepared,” by Karina Lopez and Aldo Torres.

• First place for 3-5 comedy: McMullen Booth Elementary for “Test Invasion,” by Michael Corey, Ryan Day, Logan Schultz, and Tyler Mitchiner.

• First place for 6-8 animation: Riviera Middle for “Volleyball Fight!” by Alex Windisch.

• Second place for K-2 drama: Leila G. Davis Elementary for “The Wright Show,” by Katie Hart, Kate Hubbell, and Julia Mitchem.

• Second place for K-2 music video: Leila G. Davis Elementary for “Inventors and Inventions,” by Kate Hubbell, Dante Falconio, Chad Paulsen, Teneem Abdell-Latif, Jake Hanson, John Evenwel, Devin Garth, Sage Grafe, Michael Murphy, Sylwia Pietruszkiewicz, Danny Polt, Zachary Soehl, James Totten, Julia Totten, Rhythm Turner, Kira Wales, Joey Hodson, Tanner Warner, Cross MacDonald, Adam Krouk, Aaron McCullough, Julia Mitchem, and Hope Kellum.

• Second place for 3-5 drama: Leila G. Davis Elementary for “MasterGrow Theatre,” by Jennifer Sanders.

• Second place for 3-5 news: Leila G. Davis Elementary for “WLGD News,” by Isabella Briseno, Scott Curkan, Jeffrey Griffith, Carolyn Im, Savannah Mistal, Eric Patten, Stefi Ticsa, Wenming Zhai, Stephanie Hamilton, Billy Herdman, Maddy Jarvis, Maddie Mitchem, Jenny Sanders and Jack Skantze.

• Third place for 3-5 animation: Leila G. Davis Elementary for “Shadow Discovers Invents,” by Jennifer Sanders, Katlyn Lamppert, Jack Skantze, John Hodson, Kaitlyn Smith, Billy Herdman, Matthew Brockus, and Madeleine Jarvis.

• Honorable mention for 3-5 music video: Leila G. Davis Elementary for “The Invention Song,” by Isabella Briseno, Viveca Elsey, Jenny Sanders, Jeffrey Griffith, Scott Curkan, Jack Held, Dylan Ellis, Katlyn Lamppert, Nina DePaola, Kelsy Johnson, Billy Herdman, Carolyn Im, Savannah Mistal, Abigail Jensen, Eric Patten, Haley Larsen, Julia Pennamacoor, Silvana Romero, Ayla Rubin, Jacob Thornton, Stefi Ticsa, P.J. Ventrella, Dallas Voytko, Wenming Zhai, and Hannah Atchison.
