PINELLAS COUNTY – Updated Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for Pinellas County from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are now available online at www.pinellascounty.org by clicking on Interactive Maps in the left column.
The flood maps were updated using the latest in mapping technologies and provide a more accurate depiction of flood hazards in the county.
Homeowners can search for their property online to determine whether they are in a flood zone. Most lenders require that homeowners in flood zones V or A purchase flood insurance.
Paper copies of the maps are available for viewing on the first floor of the Pinellas County Development and Review Services Building, 310 Court St., Clearwater. The maps may be purchased online from FEMA at www.msc.fema.gov/product.shtml. Information on how to challenge a flood plain determination is also available at www.fema.gov/fhm/fq_gen11.shtm or by calling (877) 336-2627.
