Article published on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008
LARGO - All Pinellas County schools and district offices will be open on Wednesday, Aug. 20.

Nearly 105,000 students in grades K-12 are expected to attend as classes begin for the 2008-09 school year.

The first day of classes was delayed due to the threat of Tropical Storm Fay.

Motorists are asked to use caution as approximately 700 buses will be on the roadways on Wednesday, carrying about 46,000 students to and from 18,306 bus stops. Approximately 15,500 breakfasts and 50,000 lunches are expected to be served in school cafeterias.

About 15,500 employees will be at work in schools and other district facilities, focused and ready to serve each student.

Nine schools start the year with new principals.
