School board plans interviews with superintendent finalists

LARGO - The Pinellas School Board voted Sept. 2 to invite three candidates to return for a second round of interviews for the position of Pinellas superintendent.

The candidates are: Alberto M. Carvalho, associate superintendent, Miami-Dade Public Schools; Nicholas M. Gledich, Ed.D., chief operations officer, Orange County Public Schools, and Julie M. Janssen, Ed.D., interim superintendent, Pinellas County Schools,

The second round of interviews are set for Monday, Sept. 8, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, in the Conference Hall of the Administration Building, 301 Fourth St. SW, Largo.

A community forum with the superintendent candidates is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. at the Stavros Institute, 12100 Starkey Road, Largo. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for community members interested in meeting the candidates. The forum is to include a question-and-answer period with each finalist.

Board members will have a 9 a.m. workshop Wednesday, Sept. 10, to decide who will be offered the job as superintendent. There will be a special board meeting at 11 a.m. Sept. 10 to formally vote on that decision.

The board is scheduled to vote on finalizing the contract with the new superintendent at the Sept. 23 meeting.

The initial interviews with the three candidates are available on the district Web site, www.pcsb.org, by clicking on the link in the “pcsNEWS” box. More specific information with the Sept. 8 interview schedule and WPDS-TV14 broadcast times for the second interviews will be distributed when available.
