Volunteer firefighters to honor Philip Beauchamp
Article published on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008
INDIAN ROCKS BEACH – The Indian Rocks Volunteer Firemen’s Association of Pinellas Suncoast Fire and Rescue have chosen Morton Plant Mease CEO Philip Beauchamp as this year’s recipient of their Commitment to Excellence in Leadership award.

Beauchamp will be honored at the Commitment to Excellence in Leadership gala on Friday, Oct. 10, at the Holiday Inn Harbourside in Indian Rocks Beach.

Now in its sixth year, the gala celebrates the life and work of men and women in Pinellas County who have clearly demonstrated a commitment to excellence in service to the people of our communities.

Past recipients of the award are former Indian Rocks Beach Mayor Robert DiNicola, community activist and IRB Commissioner Cookie Kennedy, Fire Chief John R. Leahy, Jr., local business leader Patricia Plumlee, Largo community leader George Feaster and retired Indian Rocks Fire Chief James B. Terry.

Beauchamp was appointed president and chief executive officer of Morton Plant Mease Health Care in 1997. Before his current position, Beauchamp served for five years as the president and chief executive officer of Mease Health Care, a two-hospital group that is part of the Morton Plant Mease Health Care system. He is a lifetime member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (LFACHE); fellow, Council of Regents; regent, State of Florida; and member, CEO Circle. He has also served as past president of the Tampa Bay Chapter of the American Red Cross Board of Directors and is a member of the board of directors for the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce and Ruth Eckerd Hall. In addition, Beauchamp is a board member of BayCare Health Care System, a partnership of nine Tampa Bay area not-for-profit hospitals.

Earlier this year, Beauchamp announced plans for his retirement, following a 38-year career in health care. After his retirement, he plans to stay in the community, spend more time with his family, work at his church and continue some of his community activities.

This year’s Master of Ceremonies for the gala will be Clearwater Commissioner George Cretekos.
