A trip to see Seminole artist Mary McKenna’s painting, “Dinnertime,” at the 35th Annual Florida Watercolor Society Exhibition at Art Center Sarasota, 707 Tamiami Trail, in Sarasota, is an example of the many fun things to do in Florida this fall. The show continues until Saturday, Oct. 14.
PINELLAS COUNTY - What many Floridians refer to as "gravy time" is here. Day and night temperatures are going down. The summer doldrums are past. It's time to get out and have a little fun.

The Tampa Bay Newspapers' Online Entertainment Calendar is filling up with stage companies and theaters announcing fall schedules and organizers naming dates for a variety of fall festivals. It won't be long until every weekend is overflowing with a variety of activities. "Something for everyone" becomes the theme of fall events, and the theme continues to prove true year after year.

Tampa Bay Newspapers' 2006 Pinellas Dining Guide and Online Dining Guide couldn't have debuted at a better time. Nothing is finer than dinner and a movie unless it's dinner and a festival; dinner and a stage show; dinner and a trip to a museum or art gallery, dinner and a concert, etc. etc. etc.

A good place to find fun things to do in Pinellas and beyond is TBN's online entertainment sections - Arts and Museums, Music and Concerts, Out and About, Stage and Theater, even Literary News and Movie News and Reviews.

For example, a visit to this week's Arts and Museum page will reward with the scoop on special events planned in honor of three new exhibits opening at Heritage Village this weekend. This is the last weekend for a number of exhibits and shows. Find all the details in the stories and the arts and museums exhibits listing. Check back next week for information about the new shows opening in October.

Out and About page

Cooler weather brings out the traveler in some folks, and Walt Disney World is a favorite weekend destination, especially for special events, such as the 11th annual Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, which begins on Friday. Details about this festival and more things to do can be found on the Out and About page. Other events highlighted include the final weekend for Mote Aquarium's September Splash, events at the Florida State Fairgrounds, the Pinellas Park Motorcycle Fest, the St. Petersburg Home and Remodeling Show, the first weekend of the German American Society of Pinellas County Oktoberfest and more.

Halloween events are starting to come in and all the spooky fun will be detailed each week online on the Out and About page. Check back often.

Music and Concerts page

Big names and national acts are on tap at music venues throughout Tampa Bay this weekend and the entire month of October. Visit the Music and Concerts page for the latest information. Get the skinny on Friday night's shows, including Eddie Toye and Live and Let Die at the Largo Cultural Center; a Cole Porter Tribute at the Palladium and Santana and Los Lonely Boys at Ford Amphitheatre.

Clear the calendar for next Friday, too, as The Gigantour featuring Megadeth with special guests Lamb of God, Opeth, Arch Enemy, Overkill, Into Eternity, Sanctity, and The Smashup plays the Forum. Relax a bit on Saturday with smooth jazz by New York pianist Matthew Shipp at St. Petersburg College Music Center. All the details can be found on the Concert and Music page.

Live Music Calendar

For more information on the music scene, visit TBN's popular online Live Music Calendar to find out where the best local musicians are playing throughout the week and weekend. The calendar also includes national acts playing at a variety of venues throughout Tampa Bay.

Stage and Theater page

The latest information on what's happening on stage in Tampa Bay can be found on the Stage and Theater page. From Broadway shows to comedy and serious drama, as well as ballet and more - the best the area has to offer is highlighted each week online. Current features on the Stage and Theater page include Anne Anderson's review of "Who's in Bed with the Butler?" at Ed Fletcher's Early Bird Dinner Theatre. Anderson's Curtain Call reviews highlight the best in local community theater. Don't miss the details about upcoming shows at the Largo Cultural Center, Ruth Eckerd Hall, American Stage and more. There's a lot going on and it's all online at TBNweekly.com.

Entertainment Calendar

The online Entertainment Calendar is the most visited section of Tampa Bay Newspapers' Online edition. Find out what's up in Pinellas County, Tampa Bay and beyond. The calendar includes ongoing events such as Sunsets at Pier 60, plus a large variety of different types of fun. The events are too numerous to list and more are added regularly as they come in from the print editions and e-mail to webmaster@tbnweekly.com.

Literary News

People looking to escape reality while taking a break on the beach or outside on the patio should check out Lee Clark Zumpe's Off the Shelf reviews in the Literary News section. The reviews don't come on a regular schedule, so the best advice is to visit the section often. Zumpe's latest review is of "Armageddon's Children" by fantasy author Terry Brooks. For even more reviews, use the Web site search function. Just put the keywords, "Off the Shelf" in the Article Search box. When the results come up, use the "Search Months" drop down box at the top of the page and select "all."

The Literary News page also includes links to consumer book reviews from publications around the world.

Movie News and Reviews

Zumpe also reviews the latest box office hits, giving readers his unique perspective on the big-screen offerings. Visit the Movie News and Reviews section and read his latest Reel Time column on "The Illusionist." Additional reviews are posted on the page, and more can be found by using the Web site's search feature with the keywords "Reel Time."

The Movie News and Reviews page also includes links to the latest movie news, reviews and trailers.

People who haven't found enough to do in the entertainment sections, might want to check out the Community calendar, which also includes a variety of things to do, including seminars, yard sales, educational forums, meetings and more.
