ST. PETERSBURG – Now that the Tampa Bay Rays have won their first-ever American League East championship title, fans are scrambling for tickets to the play-off games.

The Rays clinched the title Sept. 27 when the Boston Red Sox lost to the New York Yankees.

The Rays are scheduled to play the winners of the American League Central title on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 2-3, at Tropicana Field.

According to a press release from the Rays, the team's first two home games in the American League Division Series are sold out. The tickets were purchased by fans who participated in the team's Postseason Ticket Opportunity, which allowed fans to register to win the opportunity to purchase tickets in a special online pre-sale.

The winners of the Tampa Bay Rays Postseason Ticket Opportunity, which allowed fans to register to win the opportunity to purchase tickets for the American League Division Series Home Game 3 in a special online pre-sale, were notified on Sunday, Sept. 28. Those fans selected have the opportunity to purchase tickets on-line via a special link and password on Monday, Sept. 29.

A few tickets still were available by auction at www.stubhub.com as of Sunday evening.

Rays officials said any remaining Division Series tickets for a possible home game 3 at Tropicana Field would go on sale to the general public at www.raysbaseball.com, on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 9 a.m. and then Rays regular ticket outlets on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 9 a.m., if available.

Ticket outlets include the Tropicana Field Box Office, the Rays Tampa Office located at 400 N. Tampa Street, International Plaza's main concierge desk, all Ticketmaster outlets and via Ticketmaster phone charge at 727- 898-RAYS and (813) 282-RAYS.

Fans can still register for possible online pre-sales for the American League Championship Series or the possible World Series, by signing up for the Postseason Ticket Opportunity at www.raysbaseball.com. While registering, fans are encouraged to "opt-in" for future notifications, ensuring they will receive future alerts regarding future on-sales or postseason rallies. Fans that were registered for Division Series Home Games 1, 2, or 3 are automatically registered for all future postseason ticket opportunities and need not re-register.

2008 postseason ticket packages may be guaranteed by placing deposits on 2009 season ticket plans, and are available at raysbaseball.com or by calling 727-342-5757.

For more information on 2008 postseason tickets please contact the Rays Ticket Office at 888-FAN-RAYS or visit raysbaseball.com.

Time to celebrate

The Rays were scheduled to arrive back in Tampa Bay on Sunday at 9:15 p.m. and a celebration was being planned at the Clearwater –St. Petersburg Airport.

The Rays also are hosting a rally on Monday, Sept. 29, 5 p.m., at Straub Park in downtown St. Petersburg. A free concert by multi-platinum recording artists Survivor will conclude the event, which is free and open to the public.

At Monday's event, all Rays players and coaches will be on hand and the Rays will offer a variety of family friendly activities including interactive areas for kids featuring the Rays Street Team, inflatable wiffleball and speed pitch machines.

Food will be available and beverages will be provided by Anheuser Busch. Free Mohawk haircuts will also be offered. Survivor will perform '80s hits as "Eye of the Tiger," "High on You" and "I Can't Hold Back." Fans are encouraged to park in the Baywalk garage for this event.
