CLEVELAND - Delmon Young put the first point on the board with a solo home run in the third inning Wednesday night as the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Cleveland Indians in a must-win Wild Card Game at Progressive Field in Cleveland Ohio.
The Indians got the first hit, but the Tampa Bay Rays grabbed the first point, and the second, third and fourth, leaving the Indians scoreless.
The Rays scored once in the third, twice in the fourth and Ben Zobrist was sent home to add one more in the ninth.
Pitcher Alex Cobb takes a win in his postseason debut, keeping the Indians from scoring through six innings. The Rays bullpen finished off the night, leaving the Indians hungry. The Rays won 4-0.
Tampa Bay travels to Boston Friday to take on the Red Sox in the first game of the American League Division Series. Game time is 3 p.m. Saturday's game begins at 5:30 p.m. The teams travel to St. Petersburg to play Monday, Oct. 7, time to be determined.
David Price stayed on the mound through nine innings during the tiebreaker game with the Texas Rangers Wednesday night, as the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Texas Rangers, 5-2, at Rangers Ballpark to send the team on to play against the Indians.
This is the fourth time the Rays have progressed to postseason play, and the Raysí third Wild Card berth.
