Debbie Wells of Belleair, left, hits the red carpet at the Emmy Awards next to Donald and Melania Trump. On Wells’ left hand is her attention-grabbing, 25-carat diamond ring.
BELLEAIR – A mother and daughter from Belleair had the opportunity of a lifetime where they walked the red carpet at the 57th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.
What made Debbie Wells and her daughter, Dawna Leeth, shine was Wells’ 25-carat diamond ring, which she proudly displayed, making it the largest diamond on the red carpet.
Wells owns Belleair Jewelry on West Bay Drive. She showcases the sparkling rock by appointment only.
Wells and Leeth attended the Emmy Awards Sept. 18 as guests of NSO Entertainment. They researched different packages online and found that NSO had the best deal.
“You got to ride with either a presenter or nominee, and we ended up being with nominees from ‘The Apprentice,’” Leeth said.
When they arrived on the red carpet, Leeth said there were two different entrances for guests and talent. Because they arrived with nominees from NBC’s ‘The Apprentice’ Leeth and her mother entered with the stars.
“We were on the side of the red carpet where they didn’t know if we were writers for John Stewart; we could have been anybody that was suppose to be there and it was completely normal,” Leeth said.
After mingling on the red carpet, Wells’ gigantic diamond was noticed.
“Everyone notices the jewelry, the bracelets, everything,” Leeth said.
“Access Hollywood” was the first to score an interview and pictures with Wells followed by Fox News and CNN. Actress Glenn Close also mentioned Wells’ diamond.
“NSO Entertainment put us on their Web site promoting they have people with the biggest diamond on the red carpet,” Wells said.
Wells and Leeth met Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Lauren Graham, Donald and Melania Trump and many others.
“It was very surreal when we got back to the hotel and it was on television,” Leeth said. “We were looking at each other going, ‘We were right there!’ ”
