ST. PETERSBURG - The red tide bloom along the coast of southwest Florida continues to lessen, according to the Oct. 28 report from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute.
Concentrations of Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, were at background (normal) levels at most coastal sites sampled last week, according to the FWRI.
Small populations of K. brevis were still present in Tampa Bay and Sarasota Bay.
No red tide effects were reported this week. Red tide effects include respiratory irritation and fish kills.
