SEMINOLE – Seminole Mayor Jimmy Johnson was to undergo a colon resection operation Nov. 26 at Tampa General Hospital.
Johnson, 66, said the operation was necessary to remove a mass from his colon that was originally discovered last winter during tests prior to a lung replacement operation.
He said he would be in the hospital for five days and would be recovering at home for another 30 days before resuming his duties with the city and as executive director of the Seminole Chamber of Commerce.
Johnson has served on the City Council since 2003 and was appointed interim mayor on Nov. 7, 2006, when Dottie Reeder resigned to run for the Florida House of Representatives. He was elected to a three-year term as mayor in March 2007.
Johnson has been executive director of the chamber since 2001 and has lived in Seminole since 1980.
