Holiday in the Park Winterfest begins Dec. 5

PINELLAS PARK – The sixth annual Holiday in the Park Winterfest begins Friday, Dec. 5, and it’s expected to be the largest ever.
Whether you celebrate Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah or a holiday by a different name, the annual event will have something for everyone.
The festivities begin at 6 p.m. at the England Brothers Band Shell, 5120 80th Ave., and wraps up at 10 p.m.
On Dec. 6, activities begin at noon and run to 10 p.m. Parking and admission is free and there will be plenty of food and activities that include games, pony rides and loads of entertainment for children who can ride on Santa’s train, the Leland Express, enjoy a hayride and get their pictures taken with Santa Claus.
For adults there will be a large number of crafters and vendors present.
The SPCA will offer adoptable pets and promote a donation drive for money, dog and cat blankets, sheets, towels and other pet items. SPOT, or Stop Pet Overpopulation Together, will be present with information about neutering and spaying. Pinellas County Animal Services will have its mobile unit at the event.
On Dec. 5, a Karaoke for Kids Kontest with host Johnny Vinson will be held for three age groups: 5 to 9, 10 to 14 and 15 to 19. Audiences will judge the competition from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Fast Gun with Donnie and Barbara Bartholemeuw, a local favorite that has won statewide competitions, will provide live music beginning at 7:30 p.m.
In a yearly tradition, Nina Harris Exceptional Education Students will kick off the Dec. 6 program. There will be other singers, dancers, bands, school choruses, church choirs, and ethnic dancers. The Children’s Chorus from Cross Bayou Elementary School will entertain.
After the special recognition opening, DJ Mike will play music. A Kids Kan Dance Kontest will highlight dances such as Cake Walk, Freeze, the Twist, Cha-Cha Jump, and the Macarena.
