Belleair murder suspect reportedly spotted in Baton Rouge

BELLEAIR – A man wanted in connection with the murder of his wife last month at their rented Belleair home is reported to have been seen last week in Louisiana.
According to Sgt. Jim Bordner with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the lead detective on the case received a tip as a result of Louisiana media coverage that 40-year-old Ryan Cataneo was seen in Baton Rouge. The tipster reported seeing Cataneo buying cigarettes at an Exxon Station at 4700 Plank Road in Baton Rouge on Dec. 11 at 5:30 a.m.
Cataneo was reported to be in the company of an unidentified black male and two small breed white dogs (Maltese). Cataneo is still driving a rented red 2008 Mercury Mountaineer bearing Florida tag 831HLZ.
Previously, Cataneo was seen in Jefferson Parish, La., on Nov. 26.
The body of 39-year-old Deana Cataneo was discovered Nov. 28 in the home the couple rented at 7 Baybrook Place in Belleair, and a warrant was issued for her husband on one count of first degree murder.
Stone crabs reported stolen
INDIAN ROCKS BEACH – An Indian Rocks Beach fisherman reported the theft of a cooler that allegedly contained 75 pounds of stone crab claws, valued at $675. According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Joseph Masoni reported that the cooler was stolen from the back of a pickup truck he had parked at Crabby Bills restaurant in IRB from 6 p.m. on Dec. 6 until 1:15 a.m. on Dec. 7.
Fire damages duplex unit
INDIAN ROCKS BEACH – An early morning fire at a 3-story duplex Dec. 13 has been deemed accidental.
According to a press release from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Faye Webster of 126 11th Ave. left a candle unattended in the living room of the unit, and when she returned the sofa was on fire. Webster and her husband, Ronald, attempted unsuccessfully to extinguish the fire, exited the residence and called 911.
Units from Pinellas Suncoast Fire and Rescue were on the scene within minutes and prevented the fire from spreading to the other unit. The Websters were treated for minor injuries.
The investigation continues.
