Diggin’ the Arts
LARGO – The Florida Botanical Gardens Foundation will present the fourth annual Diggin’ the Arts event Sunday, May 3, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Florida Botanical Gardens, 12520 Ulmerton Road.

A $2 donation is requested for anyone age 13 and older.

Activities will include a quick-draw painting competition with more than $2,000 in prize money, open to amateur and professional artists; art sale of items painted at the gardens; presentations and activities by 10 local museums and art institutions; rain barrel raffles; an instrument “petting zoo”; scavenger hunt; and vendors selling orchids, ceramics, glass art, jewelry, tropical plants and food.

Grillin’ for the Garden
DUNEDIN – The sixth annual Grillin’ for the Garden event will be Sunday, May 3, noon to 5 p.m., at the Dunedin Smokehouse, 471 Main St.

The event will feature food and drink as well as live music. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase. Prizes, provided by local merchants, include items such as weekend getaways, jewelry, gift certificates and more. Raffle tickets are $5 each or six for $20.

Indian Shores market
INDIAN SHORES – The Indian Shores Sunday Morning Market is open in the parking lot of the Indian Shores Municipal Center, 19305 Gulf Blvd., every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through May.

The market is free of charge and family friendly.  Leashed pets are welcome. “All of our vendors are local, hands-on owners and operators,” said Market Operations Manager Laura Garrison. “We have organic produce, gourmet foodies and some of the best artists and crafters in the area. And we’re really happy to be part of the Indian Shores community. The administration and the police department of Indian Shores are an incredible group of people to work with.”

Pink Party

Sunday Musicale series
SEMINOLE – Accordionists Mattioli’s Mad Musicians will perform at the Seminole Community Library, 9200 113th St., Sunday, May 3, 3 p.m., as part of the library’s Sunday Musicale series.

Free skin cancer screenings
CLEARWATER – Morton Plant Mease health experts will offer free skin cancer screenings to the community at the 19th annual Morton Plant Mease Melanoma Monday, set for Monday, May 4, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Cheek-Powell Heart and Vascular Pavilion, Meeting Rooms A and B, at Morton Plant Hospital, 455 Pinellas St., Clearwater.

Space is limited and registration is required. For an appointment, call 953-6877. Participants should wear loose fitting clothing to the screening. The examination is limited to exposed skin only.

Melanoma Monday is a nationwide annual campaign to encourage early detection and raise awareness of skin cancers. Morton Plant Mease physicians and health care practitioners participate to help educate the community. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, affecting about five million people a year, according to the Surgeon General.
