International Day of Peace celebration
CLEARWATER – Poets Without Borders invites all to celebrate the International Day of Peace Sunday, Sept. 25, 3 to 6 p.m., at the United For Human Rights Center, 29 N. Fort Harrison Ave., Clearwater.

The celebration will be filled with poetry readings, art displays and presentations of peace and human rights. Renowned poet and award winning writer Larry Jaffe, founder of Poets Without Borders, will be curating the event. Together with an array of poets and artists, Jaffe will take up the question “Can there be Peace without War?”

The International Day of Peace, also known as Peace Day, was brought into being by United Nations Resolutions in 1981 and 2001. The United Nations International Day of Peace, Sept. 21, provides an opportunity for all humanity to come together, in spirit and in action, to forward the ideals of and conditions for peace.

This global day is observed by hundreds of millions of citizens in cities, towns and villages worldwide. Citizens, groups and governments organize and engage in diverse peace-related activities on and around this global day.

The purpose of the Poets Without Borders celebration is to present a diverse array of peace related poetry, art and videos to the community. The celebration itself will portray the subjects of peace and human rights with a show of respect for fellow poets.
