Military Order of the World Wars meeting
CLEARWATER – The Clearwater Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars meets for lunch on the first Tuesday of each month at the Belleair Country Club, 1 Country Club Lane.

Social hour starts at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch and a short program.

Military officers who are retired or are on active duty or former officers and their spouses or widows are invited to attend. The MOWW also welcomes new members.

Bromeliad Society meeting
PINELLAS PARK – The Florida West Coast Bromeliad Society will meet Tuesday, Oct. 6, 7:30 p.m., at Good Samaritan Church, 6085 Park Blvd. For information, call 439-7782.

Ray Lemieux, from Tropiflora Nursery in Sarasota, will discuss growing bromeliads from seed, and will cover topics such as how to chose the proper soil (medium) mix, how to collect, plant, and germinate different types of bromeliad seeds, and how to identify different bromeliad seeds by their fruit. Bromeliads will be for sale.

Coffee with a Cop
INDIAN ROCKS BEACH – The second “Coffee with a Cop” of 2015 will be held Tuesday, Oct. 6, 7:30-9 a.m., at Crabby Bill’s Restaurant, 401 Gulf Blvd.

The informal gathering allows residents of Indian Rocks Beach to meet members of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and the city of Indian Rocks Beach to air concerns and talk about what is happening in their neighborhoods.

First-time homebuyers workshop
ST. PETERSBURG - The Community Service Foundation will host a free, two-part first-time homebuyers workshop on Tuesdays, Oct. 6 and 13, 6 to 9 p.m., at Sunshine Center, 330 Fifth St. N., St. Petersburg.

The workshop designed to help first-time homebuyers go through the process of purchasing a home and qualifying for down payment and closing costs assistance. Participants must attend both sessions to earn a certificate.

The foundation also will host a free, two-part financial fitness workshop on Wednesdays, Oct. 21 and 28, at Pinellas County Housing Authority, 11479 Ulmerton Road, Largo. The workshop is designed for people who want to live better on less and/or to save to buy a home. Participants must attend both sessions to earn a certificate.

Guardian ad litem during an information session
TARPON SPRINGS – Learn how to become an advocate for abused and neglected children as a guardian ad litem during an information session about the program Tuesdays, Sept. 22 or Oct. 6, 11 a.m., at the Tarpon Springs Library, at 138 East Lemon St.

Guardians ad litem advocate in court and in the child welfare system for abused, abandoned, and neglected children. More than 1,000 such children in Pinellas County do not have a guardian ad litem. The guardian ad litem visits the child every month, becomes familiar with the child’s case and makes recommendations to the court to help ensure the child has a safe, caring, and stable home.

No prior experience is necessary. You will be well trained and supported by an experienced supervisory and legal staff. Once trained, volunteers spend an average of 10 hours a month.

Largo Woman’s Club meeting
LARGO – The Largo Woman’s Club meets first Tuesdays, 11:30 a.m., at the Royal Palms, 300 Lake Ave. The monthly meetings, held September through May, are $8 and include lunch.

The club’s mission is to promote charitable and civic progress of the city of Largo. Its members invite new residents and any fun and caring people to attend the meetings and business lunches, which include entertainment.

The club was founded to build sidewalks along Bay Drive. Its next project was building the Largo Public Library. The library and the Woman’s Club will be 100 years old in 2015.
