Community advocacy meeting
SOUTH PASADENA – The Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce Community Advocacy meeting will take place Thursday, Aug. 17, 9 a.m., at South Pasadena City Hall, 7047 Sunset Drive S., South Pasadena.

The meeting will feature a panel discussion on the future of Pinellas County’s environment. Topics to be covered include sewer and water infrastructure, renewable energy and environmentally friendly building standards. Panelists will include State Representative Kathleen Peters, County Utilities Director Randi Kim, Duke Energy Renewables Manager Thomas Lawery and County Development Review Director Blake Lyon.

Dog Days of Summer Social
INDIAN SHORES – Women Working Together for Animals at SPCA Tampa Bay will host the Dog Days of Summer Social on Thursday, Aug. 17, 6 to 7 p.m., at Civitan Beach Club, 18602 Gulf Blvd., Indian Shores.

This will be an end-of-summer social event at a quaint beachfront cottage. Cost is $10 per reservation.

Intro to kayaking
CLEARWATER – An introduction to kayaking will be offered Thursday, Aug. 17, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Moccasin Lake Environmental Education Center, 2750 Park Trail Lane, Clearwater.

The free program allows participants to learn the basics of kayaking in the classroom as well as on the water. The two-day program beings Thursday evening with a program covering different parts of the kayak, the equipment, and techniques. Participants then have an opportunity to turn their knowledge into skills the following Saturday afternoon on a lake. Equipment is provided.

The second part of the program will take place Saturday, Aug. 19, 11 a.m. to noon, at Cliff Stephens Park, 600 Fairwood Ave., Clearwater.

Pinellas Technical College Alumni Mixer

Tai Chi and Qigong classes

Whiskers & Wine

Culver’s blood drive
Select Culver’s restaurants will sponsor a blood drive Friday, Aug. 18, noon to 6 p.m. For details and to make an appointment, visit oneblood.org /culvers or call 888-936-6283. Appointments will be honored and walk-ins are welcome.

Donors will receive a free pint of Culver’s frozen custard and a OneBlood Tervis tumbler.

All donors also will receive a wellness checkup of blood pressure, pulse, temperature, iron count including a cholesterol screening. Generally healthy people age 16 or older who weigh at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Photo ID is required.
