Dragonfly discovery walk
TARPON SPRINGS – A dragonfly discovery walk will be offered Sunday, Sept. 24, 9 to 10:30 a.m., at Brooker Creek Preserve, 3940 Keystone Road, Tarpon Springs.

Local dragonfly expert Paul Trunk will invite participants to explore some of the habitats at BCP looking for dragonflies. Brooker Creek Preserve is an excellent area that is home to approximately 20 species of odonates. Attendees will learn about the natural history of dragonflies and their importance to a healthy ecosystem. Participants may bring binoculars and cameras.

Garden design
CLEARWATER – A program on garden design will be offered Sunday, Sept. 24, 1 to 4 p.m., at Moccasin Lake Environmental Education Center, 2750 Park Trail Lane, Clearwater.

Attendees will learn how to create the yard they desire. Tips on successful landscaping will be offered.

Cost is $15 for those with a Clearwater recreation card and $17 for those without a card.

Interfaith Prayer and Music Service
CLEARWATER – First United Methodist Church Clearwater will host an Interfaith Prayer and Music Service on Sunday, Sept. 24, 6:30 p.m., at 411 W. Turner St., Clearwater.

An imam, a rabbi, an African-American Protestant pastor and a Catholic priest have been invited to join the Rev. Daphne Johnson, FUMC pastor. Each clergy person will speak for five minutes on peace and then lead the congregation in prayer. Then, each will be followed by a soloist singing music from that specific faith community. Admission is open to the public and free of charge, yet a free-will offering will be collected and 100 percent donated to a local charity, Clothes For Kids.

“This is another part of our continuing series with a mission and music theme, and we invite everyone to come together in prayer for peace and unity,” said Johnson.

Westfield Wellness Expo
CLEARWATER – The Westfield Wellness Expo will take place Sunday, Sept. 24, noon to 5 p.m., at Westfield Countryside, 27001 U.S. 19 N., Clearwater.

Westfield wants to help make health and wellness easier for everyone by offering a free Wellness Expo. Attendance is free and guests can enjoy fitness demos, health checks, a teddy bear clinic for kids, healthy food demonstrations, interactive activities and much more.

St. Petersburg candidate forum
ST. PETERSBURG – The League of Women Voters will moderate a forum for St. Petersburg council candidates Monday, Sept. 25, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at City Hall, 175 Fifth St. N. Candidates for Districts 2, 4, and 6 have been invited to participate.

A League moderator will pose questions from those submitted in writing by audience members, providing the public an opportunity to hear what candidates have to say about critical issues facing the city. Doors open to the public at 6 p.m. and the forum begins at 6:30 p.m.

The forum will be hosted by the city of St. Petersburg.

It will be televised live on StPeteTV, the city’s government-access channel, which is available on Spectrum Channel 641, WOW! Channel 15, Frontier Channel 20, and on the city’s website, www.stpete.org. The forum also will be replayed on the channel and accessible through the city’s YouTube channel.

Tai Chi and Qigong classes

Historical presentation
SAFETY HARBOR –  Actress Nan Colton will portray Miep Gies and tell her story of courage at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 28 at Safety Harbor Public Library.

Gies, along with other silent partners, hid Anne Frank and her family for more than two years, supplying food, news, and emotional support at great personal risk.

Poet’s Portable Sense of Home
ST. PETERSBURG – A Poet’s Portable Sense of Home will be presented Thursday, Sept. 28, 7 p.m., in the Dan and Mary Miller Auditorium, at Eckerd College, 4200 54th Ave. S., St. Petersburg.

Peter Meinke, Ph.D., the poet laureate of Florida and professor emeritus of literature at Eckerd College, will discuss and read poems about his peripatetic life that has taken him, his wife Jeanne and their four children to live in many places while still calling St. Petersburg home.
