Caregivers program
ST. PETE BEACH – Pass-A-Grille Beach Community Church, in conjunction with Westminster Suncoast, will present a free program with a growing need, “Powerful Tools for Caregivers” Sunday, April 23 at 11:30 a.m.

Valerie Catchings, Westminster director of volunteerism, will present the program designed to provide information on self-care tools for caregivers.

Among the practical “how to” topics to be covered are: reduce personal stress, communicate needs to other family members and health care providers, effectively communicate in challenging situations, make difficult care-giving decisions.

Corey Avenue Sunday Market
ST. PETE BEACH – The Corey Avenue Sunday Market, located on Corey Avenue between Boca Ciega Avenue and Gulf Boulevard on St. Pete Beach, is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 2-May 28.

First United Methodist Clearwater picnic
LARGO – First United Methodist Clearwater will host its annual church picnic on Sunday, April 23, 12:45 p.m., in Shelter 5 at Eagle Lake Park, 1800 Keene Road, Largo.

FUMC will provide ham and turkey subs with all the trimmings, potato salad, coleslaw, chips, cookies and drinks for a donation of $5 per person or $15 for a family. Tickets are on sale at the church office. Call 727-446-5955.

“Everyone is invited, church members are encouraged to bring friends,” said FUMC Pastor, the Rev. Daphne Johnson, in a press release.

Shelter 5 is near to restrooms, a playground, an open field, and a boardwalk over the lake for those who want to enjoy the outdoors on their own. Games and activities also will be offered.  Ample covered picnic tables are available, yet everyone is welcome to bring their own favorite lawn chairs.

Island EarthDays
DUNEDIN – Honeymoon Island State Park and the Friends of the Island Parks Inc. will present Island EarthDays 2017 on Saturday and Sunday, April 22-23, at Honeymoon Island State Park, 1 Causeway Blvd., Dunedin.

The event is free with paid park admission of $8 per vehicle, with a maximum of eight people per vehicle. The event will take place in the shady picnic area next to the beach and the wooded hiking trails.

The two-day event will feature live bands, activities for children, beach demonstrations, live birds of prey, nature exhibits, wildlife and shell displays as well as guided trail walks through the island. Food and refreshments, including craft beer and wine, will be available for purchase.

LARGO – Largo native Sarah Gerard will read from and discuss her new book, “Sunshine State,” at the Largo Public Library on Monday, April 24, 6 p.m.

Gerard’s debut novel, “Binary Star,” was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Award for First Fiction. Her latest book, Sunshine State, a collection of essays that blends memoir and investigative journalism, has received extensive praise from critics and authors alike.

Tai Chi and Qigong classes

This class is designed to reduce stress, inflammation and disease associated with stress, as well as improve postural alignment and flexibility. The class combines specific movements, coordinated breathing and a calm focused mind used in traditional Chinese medicine, Tai Chi and Qigong practices that will improve health, vitality and longevity.
