Aging Wisely health workshop
CLEARWATER – Aging Wisely, a professional care management and patient advocacy company, will host a free Focus on Your Health workshop Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1 to 2:30 p.m., in the company’s Clearwater office, 1180 Ponce De Leon Blvd., Unit 701.

The workshop will cover what records need to be maintained, online tools to make it easier and a heads-up on Medicare changes. Aging Wisely’s goal is to provide informative workshops that allow participants to learn, pick up a few tips and tools, and the opportunity for them to share their tips with others. Workshops are offered on the second Tuesday of each month in 2016.

Author talk
LARGO – Lynn Waddell, a journalist and author of the book, “Fringe Florida: Travel Among Mud Boggers, Furries, Ufologists, Nudists, and Other Lovers of Unconventional Lifestyles,” will speak as part of the Fabulous Florida Five series on 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, in the Jenkins Community Wing of Largo Public Library.

Waddell will share her immersive experiences inside of Florida’s most eclectic and daring worlds. Free passes are available at the library, but seats are limited. Books will be on sale at each lecture and signing.

Heart health educational seminar
ST. PETERSBURG – February is heart health month and Bayfront Health St. Petersburg will host a community educational seminar Tuesday, Feb. 9, at noon in the Sheen Conference Center of the main hospital, 701 Sixth St. S.

Attendees will learn about assessing and reducing risks related to the heart. The seminar will be presented by Bayfront/USF Health cardiologist Dr. Michael Mishkin.

Manatee program
ST. PETERSBURG – What can we expect when reporting a call to the Florida Wildlife Conservation when reporting a distressed or injured manatee? Come to Boyd Hill Environmental Education Center, 1101 Country Club Way South Feb. 9, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Andy Garrett, manager of the Marine Mammal Pathobiology Laboratory, will discuss the state’s response and illustrates how the state uses data from research on stranded manatees to enhance conservation. Military Officers Wives Club meeting
GULFPORT – The Military Officers Wives Club will meet for lunch on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Pasadena Yacht and Country Club, 6300 Pasadena Point Blvd. The social hour will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will be followed by lunch at 12:15 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Steve Middents on his keyboard.

Pinellas Beekeepers Association meeting
CLEARWATER – The Pinellas Beekeepers Association Inc. will meet Tuesday, Feb. 9, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., at Moccasin Lake Environmental Education Center, 2750 Park Trail Lane. Cost is a $1 suggested donation to the center for the use of the room.

The Pinellas Beekeepers Association is a group of local beekeepers whose purpose is to learn, teach, promote and share beekeeping knowledge at meetings and through activities in and near Pinellas County. Attendees will learn how important bees are for pollination of food sources and the many advantages that honey and other hive products have for people’s health.

Safe boating class
ST. PETE BEACH – U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 78 has a 12-week continuous cycle of Safe Boating Programs Tuesdays, 7 p.m., in the Warren Webster Building, at 1500 Pass-A-Grille Way.

Attendees can start at their convenience. New participants should arrive for their first class at 6:30 p.m. to register. Included in this program are detailed and illustrated materials that cover a variety of program topics.

The program package is based on the new USCG Auxiliary Boating Skills and Seamanship 14th edition 400-page manual. All materials will be included in the cost of the program, which is $45 per participant for 12 weeks. Cost is $60 for couples sharing the materials.
