Church thrift shop reopening
ST. PETE BEACH – The thrift shop at Pass-A-Grille Beach Community Church will begin its 56th consecutive year of service to the community on Tuesday, Sept. 2.  

The shop stocks used and new items, including women’s and men’s clothing, jewelry, dishes, knick-knacks, and linens. All items are donated by church and community members.  

Proceeds support community charities such as Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, AmiKids Pinellas and church missions.

Beginning Sept. 2, the shop will be open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.  

The shop is located at 17th Ave. and Pass-A-Grille Way. Call 329-8617.

Largo Woman’s Club meeting
LARGO – The Largo Woman’s Club will host their first meeting of the year Tuesday, Sept. 2, 11:30 a.m., at the Royal Palms, 300 Lake Ave.

Lunch will be served for $8. The civic club, dedicated to promoting charitable and civic progress of the city of Largo, will celebrate its 100th anniversary Jan. 26, 2015.

Every meeting, held on first Tuesdays through May, will include interesting programs, fun and fellowship. Its members invite new residents and any fun and caring people to attend.

The club was founded to build sidewalks along Bay Drive. Its next project was building the Largo Public Library.

MLK Neighborhood Center Coalition planning sessions
CLEARWATER – The Clearwater Martin Luther King Jr. Neighborhood Center Coalition hosts weekly planning sessions every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at 1201 Douglas Ave. It also hosts a neighborhood community market each fourth Saturday, with the June market set for the 28th.  

The Community Outreach Team invites people to join them in making phone calls or writing letters to the residents in the neighborhood surrounding the center to inspire neighbors with the progress that is being made.

Qi Gong meditation classes
ST. PETE BEACH – Weekly Qi Gong moving meditation classes are held Tuesdays, 8:30 to 10 a.m., at the Warren Webster Center, 1500 Pass-A-Grille Way. The cost is $10 per class.  

Classes are lead by acupuncture physician Joyce Lockwood who studied Qi Gong in China and is certified as a Qi Gong practice leader in the U.S. through the Institute of Integral Qi Gong and Tai Chi. Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates slow graceful movements, breathing techniques and deep relaxation.

Spaghetti dinner
SEMINOLE - American Legion Post 252, 11433 Park Blvd., offers a monthly spaghetti dinner the first Tuesday of each month from 5 to 7 p.m. The dining room is open to the public. Legion membership is required to purchase alcohol. For more information, call 391-6324.

Tampa Bay Women Speakers Toastmasters Club meeting
PALM HARBOR – The Tampa Bay Women Speakers Toastmasters Club 1427169 meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at The Centre of Palm Harbor, Room A, 1500 16th St., 7 to 8:30 p.m. The upcoming meetings are Dec. 3 and 17.

The group also has a social meeting every second and fourth Tuesday of the of the month at Sea Dogs Brewing Company, 26200 U.S. 19, Clearwater in a private room at 6:30 p.m. Come and mingle, socialize and eat dinner with fellow Toastmasters members and guests. The meeting is 7 to 8:30 p.m. The group will meet Dec. 10 only because the fourth Tuesday is Christmas Eve.

Alzheimer’s support group
CLEARWATER – Alzheimer’s Association Florida Gulf Coast Chapter will host a new, monthly support group for caregivers with a loved one with dementia who lives at home or in a facility which focuses on intimacy needs and concerns.  

Beginning May 7, the group will meet first Wednesdays, 2 to 3:30 p.m., in the conference room at Alzheimer’s Association’s Clearwater office, 14010 Roosevelt Blvd., Suite 709.  

This support group will help caregivers come up with new relationship rituals and healthy alternatives for finding the care, hope, and intimacy every human being needs and deserves.  

Heidi Crockett, MSW, will facilitate. Crockett is a geriatric care manager with Aging Care Advocates. She advocates for improved quality of life for seniors specifically on the subject of intimacy and has presented several seminars for professionals and caregivers including, “Sexual Concerns Associated with Dementia,” and “Intimacy as We Age: Loving our Loved Ones Safely.”

Clinical Nutrition & Exercise Guidance
SAFETY HARBOR – Clinical Nutrition & Exercise Guidance for Healthy, Happy Bodies is coming to the Safety Harbor Rigsby Recreation Center, 605 Second St. N. on Wednesdays, Sept. 3 through Sept. 24, 5 to 6 p.m. The cost is $60 for residents and $90 for nonresidents and is for ages 15 and older.

Over the course of this month-long program, Dr. Erin Flowers will focus on the relationship between nutrition and healthy functions of the body, individualized nutritional counseling, metabolism, supplement education and more. The class also includes individual nutrition counseling and progress evaluations.
