Aquatic fitness classes
ST. PETE BEACH – The St. Pete Beach Recreation Department is again offering aquatic fitness classes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, June 10 to Sept. 22, from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. at the St. Pete Beach Aquatic Center, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive.

The cost is $5 for St. Pete Beach residents and $6 for nonresidents. Silver Sneakers members are welcome. Aquatic fitness provides muscle toning and a cardio workout with the benefits and support of the water.

Book Time at Brooker
TARPON SPRINGS – Book Time at Brooker will be offered Thursday, July 30, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., at Brooker Creek Preserve, 3940 Keystone Road.

Designed for children ages 3 to 5, this free program connects attendees to the wonders of the natural world. In addition to hearing a great story, children will participate in a craft, game or other hands-on activity related to the story that is read.

Community Health Fair
TARPON SPRINGS – The Citizens Alliance for Progress will host its annual Community Health Fair on July 30, co-sponsored by Florida Hospital North Pinellas and the GFWC Woman’s Club of Tarpon Springs. The event will run from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Union Academy Family Center, 401 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

The Community Health Fair includes a free back-to-school physical for children grades kindergarten through 8th grade, a free “healthy meal,” health and wellness information and adult health screenings.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must pre-register at 943-3600. Each pre-registered child will also receive a free backpack with school supplies.

Life Solutions Center lunch-and-learn
LARGO – A lunch-and-learn session will be presented Thursday, July 30, noon to 1:30 p.m., in the fourth floor lounge at the Life Solutions Center at Diagnostic Clinic, 1302 Second Ave. SW.

When life brings unexpected changes, there is a vast amount of community resources available to help. Many people are unaware that anything from transportation, medication management, veterans’ benefits, relocation, housing, insurance (Medicare, Medicaid, home ownership), financial planning, caregiving services and support may be within the reach of a phone or email.

Ginny Moore will facilitate the presentation. Moore is an advocate and geriatric care manager specializing in elder care with her company, Advocacy4Aging. She will talk about the community resources available to residents in Pinellas County. Handouts will be provided for everyone.

Oil painting classes
INDIAN SHORES – Oil painting classes are held Thursdays, 1 to 3:30 p.m., at the Indian Shores Municipal Building, 19305 Gulf Blvd.

Classes are for both beginners and the more experienced intermediate artists. New students begin with basic fundamentals and move toward working independently from their own photographs or subject matter. Class time consists of a demo, an instructional time, painting time, and  critique time. Instructor Betsy Schoepf works with each student individually.

Students will learn about paints, brushes, color mixing, composition, and all of the basics needed to form a foundation in traditional oil painting.  Individual creativity is emphasized.

Wordier Than Thou’s storytelling and prose open mic
CLEARWATER – Clearwater Center for the Arts, 621 Cleveland St., will host Wordier Than Thou’s storytelling and prose open mic Thursday, July 30, 7 p.m.

The event’s featured reader will be Tarpon Springs-based author David Edmonds. His novel, “Lily of Peru,” received honorable mention in the 2015 International Latino Book Awards’ Best Novel – Adventure or Drama category.

This unique open mic focuses on storytelling and fiction – no poetry or music. Readings will begin around 7 p.m. The feature reader will be followed by open mic slots. Open mic readers get 10 minutes to share their work.
