MLK Neighborhood Center Coalition planning sessions
CLEARWATER – The Clearwater Martin Luther King Jr. Neighborhood Center Coalition hosts weekly planning sessions every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at 1201 Douglas Ave. It also hosts a neighborhood community market each fourth Saturday, with the June market set for the 28th.
The Community Outreach Team invites people to join them in making phone calls or writing letters to the residents in the neighborhood surrounding the center to inspire neighbors with the progress that is being made.
CLEARWATER – The Italian club of Greater Clearwater will host pasta dinners each Tuesday, monthly, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at 200 S. McMullen Booth Road, Clearwater. Dancing also will be held on some Saturdays. For information, call 791-8698.
ST. PETE BEACH – U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 78 has a 12-week continuous cycle of Safe Boating Program meetings Tuesdays, 7 p.m., in the Warren Webster Building, at 1500 Pass-A-Grille Way.
Attendees can start at their convenience. New participants should arrive for their first class at 6:30 p.m. to register. Included in this program are detailed and illustrated materials that cover a variety of program topics.
The program package is based on the new USCG Auxiliary Boating Skills and Seamanship 14th edition 400-page manual. All materials will be included in the cost of the program, which is $45 per participant for 12 weeks. Cost is $60 for couples sharing the materials.

TREASURE ISLAND – The SilverSneakers FLEX program is now available Tuesdays, 10:45 a.m., at the Treasure Island Community Center, 106th Avenue and Gulf Boulevard.
The program is free to SilverSneakers members and $5 per class for others.
The workout includes easy-to-follow, low-impact movement and upper-body strength, abdominal conditioning, stretching and relaxation exercises designed to energize your life style. Chairs are available.

LARGO – Take a Hand, a support group for parents and caregivers of teenagers suffering from substance abuse and behavioral issues will meet Tuesdays, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., in portable 1A of Anona United Methodist Church, 13233 Indian Rocks Road.
The group, started with the support of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, will invite guest speakers to offer advice and support to those caring for addicted teenagers, including information about the judicial system, residential treatment and more. The meetings are designed to be a safe place for parents, relatives and friends.
CLEARWATER – The Humane Society of Pinellas will host an open house on Wednesday, May 27, 4 to 7 p.m., at Humane Society of Pinellas, 3040 State Road 590.
Business neighbors and friends are welcome to attend. Personal, behind-the-scenes tours will be offered. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet HSP staff members and see adoptable pets. Beer and wine will be available. No RSVP is required.

ST. PETERSBURG – The City Power Toastmasters Club, a nonprofit communication and leadership club, meets Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m. at the Municipal Services Building, One Fourth St. N., Sixth Floor, Room 600.
The club teaches self-confidence and skills to help listen, think, speak and gain leadership qualities. Participants gain poise, positive body language and speak more easily.

National Active and Retired Federal Employees group meeting
ST. PETERSBURG – Chapter 1140 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees group will meet Wednesday, May 27, 11:30 a.m., at the Teppanyaki Grill and Supreme Buffet Restaurant, 391 34th St. N.
All Federal retirees and active Federal employees are encouraged to attend an upcoming meeting of NARFE Chapter 1140 that includes the Gulf Beaches and Southern Pinellas County. Spouses and guests are welcome to attend.
The guest speaker will be David Jolly, the United States Congressman representing Florida’s 13th Congressional District, which covers most of Pinellas County. Jolly will be discussing up-to-date issues particularly relevant for active and retired Federal employees.
ST. PETERSBURG – The Stroke and Cardiac Support Group meets fourth Wednesdays, 3 p.m., in the Sheen Conference Center, Salon A, at Bayfront Health, 701 Sixth St. S.

SEMINOLE – Seminole Youth Athletic Association’s newly formed U16 girls Lady Santos team will hold tryouts at the SYAA complex, 12100 90th Ave., Wednesdays, May 20 and 27, and Fridays, May 22 and 29, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Attendance is required at a minimum of two tryouts to make the team. Players are also required to check in 20 minutes prior to the start of each tryout.
Players must bring shin guards, cleats and plenty of water to drink.
