ECO Teacher Training Workshop
TARPON SPRINGS - ECO Teacher Training Workshop 2016, Monday, July 25, 9 a.m. to Friday, July 29, 3:30 p.m.

The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension has teamed up with the St. Petersburg College of Education Professor to offer this nationally award-winning, week-long environmental education workshop for pre-service elementary, ESE education students, current elementary and ESE teachers and non-formal educators.

The workshop aims to teach participants with tools to interpret the natural world and impart the need for resource conservation to their audience.

Each day will feature different environmental subjects. Day 1 is Project Butterfly Wings; Day 2, Project Wild; Day 3, Schoolyard Wildlife; Day 4, Flying Wild; and Day 5, Project Learning Tree. Call 727-453-6800 or visit www.brookercreekpreserve.org.

Electronics class
TARPON SPRINGS – The Tarpon Springs Recreation Division is offering a new electronics class to assist participants in learning how to operate their electronic devices properly on Wednesdays, 6 p.m., at the Tarpon Springs Community Center, 400 S. Walton Ave.  

The class costs $7 per class or $24 per month. This class will demonstrate basic tasks through both one-on-one training and group demonstrations. Bring your own electronic devices.

English classes
MADEIRA BEACH – English for students of other languages is being offered by Pinellas County School Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Madeira Beach Fundamental School, 591 Tom Stuart Causeway. Cost is $30 a semester.

Attendees will have an opportunity to learn and to practice English with a teacher, with computers and with other learners.

Graffiti yoga class
TARPON SPRINGS – The Tarpon Springs Community Center will host a new class called Graffiti Yoga, on Mondays and Wednesdays, starting June 6 at 7:15 p.m., at 400 S. Walton Ave.

Students will enjoy music that ranges from hip-hop to drum beats to soothe the soul. The fee is $15 per class or $97 per month.

Grant writing workshop
ST. PETERSBURG – The St. Petersburg Arts Alliance will offer an overview of grant writing for nonprofit arts and cultural organizations Wednesday, July 27, 6 p.m., at The Greenhouse, 440 Second Ave. N., St. Petersburg.

The Arts Alliance is offering this workshop in answer to frequent requests from arts organizations. Topics will include developing a funding statement, research, and grant proposal basics, planning program evaluation, project budgets, managing awards and grant reports.

The course is taught by Barbara Mazer Gross. Gross is a development consultant and arts lover with close to 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. She is the director of client relations for the Tessitura Network, a global leader in technology and services for arts and culture, and she also serves as a development and membership consultant.

Largo Star Toastmasters Club 5933 meeting
LARGO – Largo Star Toastmasters Club 5933 invites new members to its weekly meeting on Wednesdays, 12:05 to 1:05 p.m., at the Young Rainey Star Center, 7887 Bryan Dairy Road No. 120.

The club is open to all residents and workers in the Largo, Pinellas Park and Seminole areas.

A Toastmasters club provides a supportive and positive environment where members have the opportunity to develop their oral communication and leadership skills. Active shooter training
ST. PETERSBURG – The city of St. Petersburg Police and Fire departments will host a free community training program on what to do if an active shooter threatens your workplace, campus, shopping center or other public area on Thursday, July 28, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Coliseum, 535 Fourth Ave. N., St. Petersburg.

Taught by a St. Petersburg police department instructor, the course will provide strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. The course is designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy developed by the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center at Texas State University.

The free program is open to everyone. Seating is extremely limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Children are welcome to attend, but parental guidance is strongly recommended as parts of the presentation contain material some viewers may find sensitive.
