Health benefits of cooking with coconut oil

Healthy cooking program
SAFETY HARBOR – A free program on the health benefits of cooking with coconut oil will be presented Thursday, June 29, 6:30 p.m., at Safety Harbor Public Library, 101 Second St. N., Safety Harbor.

Caroline Blesson of Cooking with Incredible Spices will demonstrate how simple it is to eat healthy and not spend hours in the kitchen, using simple recipes and incorporating coconut oil as an alternative for healthy food. Samples will be provided to the first 30 attendees.

Tai Chi and Qigong classes
ST. PETE BEACH – Tai Chi and Qigong classes are presented Mondays, 11 a.m.; and Thursdays, 12:30 p.m., at the St. Pete Beach Community Center, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive, St. Pete Beach.

This class is designed to reduce stress, inflammation and disease associated with stress, as well as improve postural alignment and flexibility. The class combines specific movements, coordinated breathing and a calm focused mind used in traditional Chinese medicine, Tai Chi and Qigong practices that will improve health, vitality and longevity.

Paws with a Cause
PALM HARBOR – A benefit event for Paws with a Cause will take place Friday, June 30, 7 p.m., at Palm Harbor Dance Studio, The benefit will include dancing, a silent auction and a Paws with a Cause presentation with demo dogs.

Demos will include seeing a service dog work as well as dancing. This event is open to the public and refreshments will be provided. In addition to the benefit, a portion of all sales for the month of June will be donated to Paws with A Cause.

Gina Kaiser, co-owner of Palm Harbor Dance Studio, is a field representative for Paws with a Cause. She knows firsthand how Paws with a Cause enhances the independence and quality of life for people with disabilities through custom-trained assistance dogs.

“Being a Paws with a Cause field representative has allowed me to give back to my community by helping people and I can’t wait to share just how special these dogs are,” said Kaiser in a press release.

Paws with a Cause increases awareness of the rights and roles of assistance dog teams through education and advocacy. Paws with a Cause provides services in 30 states and has placed more than 2,700 assistance dogs teams throughout the country. There are more than 300 PAWS dog volunteers as well as community presenters and special event volunteers.

Parade and festival
KENNETH CITY – The towns of Kenneth City and Pinellas Park will partner up to present a small town parade and festival Saturday, July 1, along 54th Avenue North.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at 62nd Street and travel east along 54th Avenue to 58th Street, where paraders will turn south and proceed to its destination, a festival at the Kenneth City Fire Department.

The family-friendly festival will include food vendors, an arts and crafts show, children’s activities and more.

Admission to the festival is free, although fees will apply to some vendors and activities.

Patriotic musical celebration
ST. PETE BEACH – Pass-A-Grille Beach Community Church will celebrate the 238th birthday of America with a patriotic musical celebration at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 2. The “Let Freedom Ring” celebration will be held in lieu of worship services that day.

Under the direction of Dale Williams, keyboardist with the Florida Orchestra, and seven vocalists, the program will include renditions of “America the Beautiful,” “Stars and Stripes Forever,” and “Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor” among other stirring patriotic songs.

The Women’s Ministry sponsors the presentation. There is no charge for the celebration and all are invited to join the congregation for coffee and cake after the program.

Pass-A-Grille Beach Community Church is located at 107 16th Ave., St. Pete Beach.

Home Town USA
DUNEDIN – The city of Dunedin and the Dunedin Blue Jays present the Home Town USA event at the Florida Auto Exchange Stadium Monday, July 3, at 6:15 p.m.

The Dunedin Blue Jays will compete against the Daytona Tortugas. Admission is free and traditional ballpark food will be available for purchase at the concession stand. Immediately following the ballgame, a 20-minute fireworks display will be held.

The event will conclude with a live band performance.

Kiwanis Midnight Run
DUNEDIN – The 38th Annual Kiwanis Midnight Run will take place on the Dunedin Causeway July 3-4. Events include a 1-mile fun run/walk at 11 p.m., Monday, July 3, and the 5K run at 11:25 p.m. and the 10K run Tuesday, July 4, at 12:15 a.m. Race night activities begin at 9:30 p.m. July 3.
