Corey Sunday Market
ST. PETE BEACH – The popular Corey Avenue Sunday Market is open Sundays, October through May, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The market, features 50 to 80 vendors who sell a variety of locally produced and homemade items including produce, plants, take home foods, ready to eat lunch bites, hand crafts, eco-friendly and fair trade products.

This season will be the second that Tampa Bay Markets has managed the market in conjunction with the Corey Avenue Business Association.

Cure on Wheels
TIERRE VERDE – Presented by AAA, the Cure on Wheels Cure the Bay Challenge Ride will take place Sunday, May 1, at Tampa Bay Watch, near Fort De Soto Park, Tierra Verde.

A variety of cycling events are available for all ages. The ride includes a 7-mile All Children’s Family Fun Ride, a 20 Tour De Moffitt Ride and a 40-mile YMCA Pedal for a Purpose Ride. Individual riders and rider teams are welcome.

The 7-mile All Children’s Family Fun riders have a minimum goal of $75 a person fundraising goal plus a $25 per person registration fee. Children 11 and younger are exempt from fundraising, but encouraged to do so.

The 20 Tour De Moffitt and 40-mile YMCA Pedal For A Purpose riders have a minimum fundraising goal of $250 per person and a $50 registration fee.

Participants may register at the event as well as online in advance.

Garden tours
LARGO - The Florida Botanical Gardens Foundation will host a tour of the Florida Botanical Gardens and five private gardens on Sunday, May 1, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The garden tour will begin at Pinellas County Extension at 10 a.m., where participants will start a guided tour of the Florida Botanical Gardens and receive a map that will guide them to the other five participating gardens in the mid-county area. The private gardens will be open to visitors from noon until 4 p.m.

The private garden tour features multiple unique gardens. Guests will visit a master orchid hybridizer who will share his techniques. Other gardens on the tour include a butterfly, native, fruit and vegetable garden with an onsite plant nursery, a native plant garden and the Japanese art of flower arranging called ikebana.

Another garden is an eclectic mix of reclaimed cobblestones and English chimney pots in a mini Florida jungle, complete with a fishpond.

Lastly, tour-goers will visit a floral garden with outdoor artwork and a mixture of palms and ornamental trees surrounding a unique pool with an island overlooking Clearwater Bay.

Tickets for the tour are $15 per person or $10 per person for FBGF members. Tickets can be purchased online at www.flbgfoundation.org or at the Botanical Bounty Gift Shop in the Extension building Monday through Friday.

All proceeds go to the Florida Botanical Gardens Foundation to purchase plants and make improvements to the gardens.

Guided tours of the Florida Botanical Gardens
LARGO – Guided tours of the Florida Botanical Gardens will be offered Sunday, May 1, 10 a.m. to noon, at 12520 Ulmerton Road, Largo.

Visitors may also tour five beautiful and varied private gardens located in Belleair Bluffs, Indian Rocks Beach and Seminole. Private gardens are open noon to 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person and $10 for members of the Florida Botanical Gardens Foundation.

Advance registration is required. To register, visit www.flbgfoundation.org, call 727-582-5800 or purchase tickets on the day of the event at the Florida Botanical Gardens gift shop. Wristbands and maps will be distributed on the day of the event at the Florida Botanical Gardens Gift Shop from 10 a.m. to noon.

Participants must have a wrist band to participate in any of the tours.

Lessons Learned: 40 Years of Speaking Truth to Power
ST. PETERSBURG – Elizabeth Holtzman will speak on Lessons Learned: 40 Years of Speaking Truth to Power on Sunday, May 1, 4:30 p.m., at Temple Beth-El, 400 Pasadena Ave. S.

In 1972, Holtzman burst onto the congressional scene by defeating a 50+-year incumbent. Shortly after arriving in Washington, D.C., she rose to prominence for the major role she played in the Nixon impeachment hearings.

The 1978 Holtzman Amendment requires that Nazi war criminals be deported from the United States. Other career highlights included protecting the privacy and dignity of rape victims, advocating for the Equal Rights Amendment, working on environmental issues, rooting out corruption in government, protecting voting rights and more.

Holtzman will speak as part of the Leif Nissen Social Justice Lecture Series. Her presentation will be followed by question-and-answer session and a light supper. The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by Temple Beth-El, along with USF St. Petersburg, League of Women Voters of St. Petersburg area, Unitarian Universalist Church of Clearwater.

Mother’s Day celebration
CLEARWATER  – The Church of Scientology will host a Mother’s Day celebration Sunday, May 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at its Public Information Center in the lobby of the former Bank of Clearwater.

An evening piano recital by Kathy Roberts is planned and refreshments will be served.

“I am a mother myself, and enjoy activities that include all members of the community,” said Rosie Freihoff, organizer of the event. “We want all mothers and families to enjoy this day and are honored to have pianist, Kathy Roberts, performing for us.”

Paddleboard yoga
ST. PETE BEACH – Residents will have an opportunity to strengthen their core and find relaxation on the water with paddleboard Yoga at the St. Pete Beach Aquatic Center. Classes are held on Sundays at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and on Mondays at 7:30 p.m.

The class is good for first-time paddlers or those looking to expand their existing practice. Each class will include basic paddling instruction and gentle yoga on the water. Reservations are required. Limited space is available.

The cost is $15 for St. Pete Beach residents or $17 for a nonresident. To reserve your spot call the St. Pete Beach Aquatic Center at 363-9264.

Survey results release event
CLEARWATER – The Clearwater Neighborhoods Coalition distributed a neighborhood survey and received more than 300 responses from Clearwater residents. Those results will be announced from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on May 2 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 407 Saturn Ave.

Keynote speaker for the event will be Susan P. Ajoc, director of community services for the city of St. Petersburg.

There is no cost to attend the meeting and refreshments will be served.
