City Power Toastmasters Club meeting
ST. PETERSBURG – The City Power Toastmasters Club, a nonprofit communication and leadership club, meets Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m. at the Municipal Services Building, One Fourth St. N., Sixth Floor, Room 600.  

The club teaches self-confidence and skills to help listen, think, speak and gain leadership qualities. Participants gain poise, positive body language and speak more easily.  

Guests are welcome to visit for free with no pressure to join.

Historical Society meeting
SEMINOLE – Jay Starkey Jr. will speak at the Seminole Historical Society meeting Wednesday, Jan. 28, 7 p.m., at the Holland G. Mangum Recreation Complex, 9100 113th St. N., Room 210B.

He is the son of Jay Starkey Sr., the pioneer Pinellas County resident for whom Starkey Road is named. Jay Sr. was not only a local cattle rancher, but also the County tax collector, a bank director and a conservationist who worked to preserve Pinellas’ beauty.

His son will speak about his impact on the county and Florida’s west coast in the 20th century. Copies of “Things I Remember,” written by Jay Sr., will be available at the meeting to members at no charge while supplies last.

Largo Toastmasters meeting
LARG0 – Largo Star Toastmasters Club 5933 invites new members to its weekly meeting on Wednesdays, 12:05 to 1:05 p.m., at the Young Rainey Star Center, 7887 Bryan Dairy Road No. 120 in Largo.

The club is open to all residents and workers in the Largo, Pinellas Park and Seminole areas.

A Toastmasters club provides a supportive and positive environment where members have the opportunity to develop their oral communication and leadership skills. Come watch as members present speeches, develop leadership skills by serving in various club positions and participate in Table Topics sessions in a relaxed yet structured one-hour setting.

MOAA luncheon
The Clearwater Chapter of The Military Officers Association (MOAA) will meet at the Clearwater Country Club, 525 Betty Lane, at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 28 for its monthly luncheon. The guest speaker will be Col. Bill Horne, USAF RET.

NARFE Chapter 1140 luncheon meeting
ST. PETERSBURG – Chapter 1140 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees will host its next monthly luncheon meeting Wednesday, Jan. 28, 11:30 a.m., at the Teppanyaki Grill and Supreme Buffet Restaurant, 391 34th St. N.

NARFE Chapter 1140 includes the Gulf Beaches and southern Pinellas County. All Federal retirees and active Federal employees are encouraged to attend. Spouses and guests are welcome to attend.

There will be a discussion of up-to-date issues particularly relevant for active and retired Federal employees. New officers for 2015 will be introduced. For information, call 446-1619.

Evening of jazz
The Safety Harbor Library Foundation invites the public to swing with jazz vocalist Christiana Drapkin and her dynamic band at 7 p.m. on Jan. 29. Prior to the show at 6:30 p.m., there will be a wine and cheese reception with opportunities for silent auction items.

All proceeds will support the Foundation’s 20/20 Vision – Let’s Build a Story capital campaign. The program is free and open to the public. Donations gratefully accepted.

Clearwater Public Library book sale
CLEARWATER – The Friends of the Clearwater Public Library will host a book sale on Jan. 29, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Jan. 30-31, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Clearwater Main Library, 100 N. Osceola Ave

. A special collectibles area will be set aside for rare and collectible books. Each book is individually priced.

A special pre-sale event with entry donation of $10 will be held on Jan. 28, 4 to 6:30 p.m.

Daughters of Italy to host meeting
DUNEDIN – The Daughters of Italy Lodge No. 2825 will host its monthly meeting on Jan. 29 at Clearwater Community Church, room 206 of the education building, 2897 Belcher Road.

Fit Over 50 expo set
SEMINOLE – The city of Seminole will host its 14th annual Fit Over 50 health and wellness expo Thursday, Jan. 29, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Holland G. Mangum Recreation Complex, 9100 113th St. N.

This event, which focuses on the health and wellness of Pinellas County seniors, will include freebies, entertainment, a healthy salad buffet, a vendor expo, hands-on fitness and wellness demonstrations, health screenings and more.
