Brooker Book Club
TARPON SPRINGS – The Friends of Brooker Creek Preserve will host the Brooker Book Club Saturday, Sept. 5, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at Brooker Creek Preserve, 3940 Keystone Road.

The club meets first Saturdays and is geared toward adults. The club’s book list includes works by Florida authors, past and present, with archeology, biography, politics and history storylines. This month’s book selected for discussion is “Alligators in B Flat” by Jeff Klinkenburg. Books are not provided.

Labor Day Arts & Craft Show
TARPON SPRINGS – The Tarpon Springs Merchants Association will host the annual Labor Day Arts & Craft Show Saturday through Monday, Sept. 5-7, along Dodecanese Boulevard.

The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will include craft booths, food and non-alcoholic beverages. All profits will be used by the Merchants Association for charities.

Labor Day weekend blood drives
OneBlood will be at participating locations of select movie theaters on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 4-5, 2 to 8 p.m. Donors will receive a free movie ticket. For a list of theaters, visit oneblood.org /movies or call 888-936-6283.

OneBlood also will be at participating Publix Supermarket locations on Sunday and Monday, Sept. 6-7, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Donors will receive a $10 Publix gift card. For a list of participating Publix locations, visit oneblood.org /publix or call 888-936-6283.

In addition, all donors receive a wellness check-up of blood pressure, pulse, temperature and iron count, including a cholesterol screening. Generally healthy people age 16 or older who weigh at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Multiple Myeloma Education Group meeting
CLEARWATER – The Tampa-St. Pete Multiple Myeloma Education Group meets first Saturdays, 10:30 a.m., in the Meeting Room 3 of Mease Countryside Hospital, 3231 McMullen Booth Road, Clearwater.

Multiple myeloma is cancer that starts in the plasma cells in bone marrow.

This group is open to all multiple myeloma patients, their families and their caregivers. Attendees exchange information and learn of the latest in research and treatment of multiple myeloma.

Native bees of Florida
CLEARWATER – A free program on the native bees of Florida will be offered Saturday, Sept. 5, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at Moccasin Lake Environmental Education Center, 2750 Park Trail Lane. Call 793-2976.

Honey bees, in one way or another, play an important role in providing all food on the planet.  Without them, life as we know it would not exist. Attendees will learn about these fascinating little creatures in an interactive speaking series. The class will be presented by Moccasin Lake’s resident beekeepers, Gyula and Barnabas Bela.

Safe boating classes
MADEIRA BEACH – The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 11-3 offers monthly safe boating classes through the end of the year at its headquarters at 299 Boca Ciega Drive.

Classes meet the first Saturday of the month from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $40 per person.

The classes are open to the public and recommended for anyone who owns a boat, a personal watercraft, anyone interested in purchasing a boat or anyone who wants to learn safe boating practices.

Classes cover subjects such as navigating the waterways, operating a boat safely, legal regulations, what to do in an emergency, getting to know your boat and information you need to know before getting under way. Experienced U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary instructors teach all classes.

Saturday Night Dinners
