Crafts for veterans
PINELLAS PARK – The Pinellas Park Senior Center, 7625 59th St. N., will offer a weekly craft workshop for veterans on Fridays, 1 to 4 p.m.

Projects, which are donated by the Help Hospitalized Veterans Program, include model cars, wood projects, leatherwork, needlecrafts, poster art, beadwork and more.

The crafts aid in rehabilitation, and are designed to restore coordination and impaired motor skills, improve attention spans and concentration, and relieve symptoms of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and other conditions.

ECO Teacher Training Workshop
TARPON SPRINGS - ECO Teacher Training Workshop 2016, Monday, July 25, 9 a.m. to Friday, July 29, 3:30 p.m.

The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension has teamed up with the St. Petersburg College of Education Professor to offer this nationally award-winning, week-long environmental education workshop for pre-service elementary, ESE education students, current elementary and ESE teachers and non-formal educators.

The workshop aims to teach participants with tools to interpret the natural world and impart the need for resource conservation to their audience.

Each day will feature different environmental subjects. Day 1 is Project Butterfly Wings; Day 2, Project Wild; Day 3, Schoolyard Wildlife; Day 4, Flying Wild; and Day 5, Project Learning Tree. Call 727-453-6800 or visit www.brookercreekpreserve.org.

Here We Glo Night
LARGO – The whole family is welcome for Glo Night from 8:45 to 11:45 p.m. Friday, July 29, at the Highland Family Aquatic Center.

The special summer event features special lighting that includes laser and LED lights at the pool. As the sun sets, underwater lighting will illuminate the night, as a DJ provides entertainment. Splash’s Snack Bar will be open with $1 hot dogs, along with free door prizes and planned activities throughout the night.

Admission is limited to the first 250 guests. Each guest will receive a free Glo-Necklace. Wristbands are available for purchase at the complex. Cost is $5 for members and $8 for nonmembers.

How to Post an Effective Blog
PINELLAS PARK – A workshop about “How to Post an Effective Blog” will be held Friday, July 29, noon to 2 p.m., at Blissful Beginnings, 8800 49th St. N., Suite 402.

The workshop is sponsored by LAST Research and Editing. A donation of $12 is requested.

The workshop, the second in a series of “Marketing for Small Businesses” classes, is designed to help business owners write and post effective blogs for marketing purposes.

Topics to be covered include how to come up with topics, differences between blogs and articles, when and where to post, and how to use the blog for marketing.

Painting Party
LARGO – If you’re looking for a fun and creative way to spend time with friends, Largo Community Center is hosting a Painting Party on Friday, July 29, 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Experienced instructor Alexis Perez will guide participants through the process of creating their own painting.

The price of $40 includes a canvas, paints, supplies and up to two glasses of wine, beer, soda or bottled water. Additional beverages are available for purchase.

Senior investment club
ST. PETERSBURG – A senior investment club conducts discussions every Friday at 10 a.m. at the Sunshine Center, 330 Fifth St. N.

Back to School Care Fair
ST. PETERSBURG – The Junior League of St. Petersburg will host a Back to School Care Fair on Saturday, July 30, 8 a.m. to noon, at Enoch Davis Recreation Center, 1111 18th Ave. S., St. Petersburg.

The event will provide school physicals, medical screenings, backpacks with school supplies, an educational street fair and community resource information. All services and supplies are made available at no cost to participants. 

The Back to School Care Fair was developed to prepare students K-12 for success. Over the last two decades, the fair has provided an estimated 6,500 medical exams, 25,000 backpacks with school supplies, distributed thousands of age-appropriate chapter books and dedicated countless volunteer hours to the children and families most in need of these resources. 

The Junior League’s 20th annual Back to School Care Fair is a collaboration of local community organizations such as Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, the city of St. Petersburg, Pinellas County Schools and many others. The event hosts an outdoor family-friendly street fair complete with educational exhibits and interactive entertainment. Inside the event, students accompanied by an adult can receive free medical, dental and vision exams, school physicals and brand new backpacks filled with school supplies. Parents can also find information on a variety of community resources at the agency fair, designed for nonprofits offering services to families.

Book Maniacs’ Mini-Golf
LARGO – Make a hole-in-one at Largo Public Library’s third annual Book Maniacs’ Mini-Golf event Saturday, July 30. Play a round of mini-golf, putter through the vendor shopping area, or grab a treat between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The last tee time is at 3:30 p.m.

The indoor family-friendly golf course features 18 book-themed holes. Tickets are $2 per person per round of golf and $6 for a group of four per round. Children, ages 12 and younger, must be accompanied by an adult.

The event is sponsored by the Friends of Largo Library and other local businesses, and has been developed by the library’s teen volunteers as a fundraiser for programs and materials for the Teen Room.
