Colors of the Season
ST. PETERSBURG – Colors of the Season will be offered Wednesday, Jan. 18, noon to 1:30 p.m. at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve, 1101 Country Club Way S.

Attendees will learn about harvesting, making and using natural paints with a guided hike and classroom activities for families. All materials are included, but artists are welcome to bring their own canvas and brushes. Cost is $10. The program is designed for ages 5 to adult.

Largo Star Toastmasters Club 5933 meeting
LARGO – Largo Star Toastmasters Club 5933 invites new members to its weekly meeting on Wednesdays, 12:05 to 1:05 p.m., at the Young Rainey Star Center, 7887 Bryan Dairy Road No. 120.

The club is open to all residents and workers in the Largo, Pinellas Park and Seminole areas.

A Toastmasters club provides a supportive and positive environment where members have the opportunity to develop their oral communication and leadership skills. Come watch as members present speeches, develop leadership skills by serving in various club positions and participate in Table Topics sessions in a relaxed yet structured one-hour setting.

Archaeology lecture
ST. PETERSBURG – As part of the Archaeology Lecture Series, a program on complex hunter-gatherers of interior British Columbia will be presented Thursday, Jan. 19, 7 to 8 p.m., at Weedon Island Preserve, 1800 Weedon Drive NE, St. Petersburg.

The Middle Fraser Canyon of interior British Columbia is the traditional home of the St’at’imc people, famous for their intensive salmon fishing, large pithouse villages, and complex social organization. Archaeological research has identified the establishment of permanent St’at’imc villages in the Mid-Fraser Canyon shortly after 2,000 years ago. The villages grew to peak size by 1,300 years ago with some communities including as many as 1,000 persons organized in clans and ranked house groups.

King’s Brass performance

Let’s Toast the Opera
ST. PETERSBURG – The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Eckerd College will present Let’s Toast the Opera, a wine and cheese reception, on Thursday, Jan. 19, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Quak Center at Westminster Suncoast, 1095 Pinellas Point Drive S.

Special guests will include baritone Sherrill Milnes of the New York Metropolitan Opera and WUSF-FM public radio host Russell Gant.

Milnes is acclaimed as a foremost operatic baritone of his generation. He has sung more than 650 performances at the Met, including 16 new productions and 10 national telecasts. He is the winter of three Grammy Awards and is most recorded American male opera singer of his time.

Admission is $5 per person or free for season ticket holders of the OLLI Met Opera and National Theatre programs at Eckerd College.
