1776
“1776,” presented by Eight O’Clock Theatre, running July 15-24, at Largo Cultural Center, 105 Central Park Drive, Largo. Tickets start at $26.50. Call 727-587-6793 or visit largoarts.com. Performances will be Thursday through Saturday, 8 p.m.; and Sunday, 2 p.m.

The nation is ready to declare independence ... if only our founding fathers can agree to do it. In 1776, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Richard Henry Lee, and Thomas Jefferson attempt to convince Congress to vote for independence from Britain by signing the Declaration of Independence.

A funny, insightful, and compelling drama with a striking score and legendary book, this Tony Award winner for Best Musical puts a human face on the pages of history as we see the men behind the national icons. Don’t miss this powerful and poignant musical that will have you humming and rooting for our country.

Veteran actor Mark Chambers will bring Truman Capote back to life in this one-man play directed by Lisa Tricomi. Adapted from the words and works of Truman Capote, “Tru” takes place in the writer’s New York City apartment during the week before Christmas 1975.

An excerpt from Capote’s infamous novel “Answered Prayers” has recently been published in Esquire and the author’s friends have turned their back on him. Alone and hurting, Capote soothes himself with pills, alcohol, and chocolate truffles while musing about his checkered life and career.

Mark Chambers appeared in “Tru” four years ago at Florida Repertory Theatre.
