Armed Forces museum chili cook-off
LARGO – The Armed Forces History Museum welcomes the First Responders Chili Cook-off and Classic Car Show Saturday, Sept. 20, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 2050 34th Way N.

First responders from Pinellas and Hillsborough counties will compete to be crowned chili champs. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children ages 4 to 12.

The afternoon will be filled with all the chili you can sample, classic cars, a Budweiser beer truck, a cupcake truck, hot dogs and snacks, World War II M8 vehicle rides, virtual simulator rides, museum tours and a live DJ from Rhino Cubes.

Event sponsors are Great Bay Distributors/Budweiser, Shasta, Rip It Beverages, Little Greek Restaurants, Let’s Roll Promotions, Q105 and WQYK.

The events acts as a fundraiser for the museum’s community outreach, veteran and youth education programs.

This Grammy and Tony winning artist is most noted for his 1996 debut "Barely Breathing," which topped the Adult Top 40 charts, reached the Top 20 on Adult Contemporary radio and remained on the Billboard Hot 100 for a record-setting 55 straight weeks.

Sheik’s Grammy and Tony awards came in 2007 and 2008 for Best Orchestration, Best Original Score and Best Musical Show Album with “Spring Awakening.” His latest theater project is “American Psycho,” directed by Rupert Goold, which debuted to a sold out run in 2013.

“Go, Granny D!” stars Barbara Bates Smith and features musician Jeff Sebens.

At age 90 Doris "Granny D" Haddock blazed a 3,200-mile trail across America for campaign finance reform, precipitating the passage of the McCain-Feingold Act. She continued her bipartisan reform efforts in countrywide voter registration drives, issuing her final challenge in 2010 at age 100: "Democracy is a running game. You huddle and you go back in. You keep going."

In this hilarious and touching 90-minute performance, Off-Broadway actress Barbara Bates Smith and musician Jeff Sebens highlight the story of this crusader whose steel determination took the world by surprise and elevated her to national fame.
