British guitar virtuoso Richard Smith is known worldwide for his fancy finger-style guitar playing, having performed with Chet Atkins, Les Paul, Boots Randolph, Tommy Emmanuel, Sam Bush and others. At a young age he transcribed classical music, jazz, the gypsy style of Django Reinhardt, bluegrass, ragtime, blues and Sousa marches. Richard has achieved honors such as being named the 2001 National Fingerstyle Guitar Champion and the 2009 National Thumbpickers Hall of Fame.
“Something Old/Something New,” a show featuring new works by 22 local artists, will be presented Sunday, Jan. 22, 1 to 4 p.m., at Studio 1212, 1405 Cleveland St., Clearwater.
Studio 1212 Art Gallery will present new works by 22 local artists, as well as some re-priced previously shown works. There also will be tickets on sale for a basket of art goodies.
Still going strong after 46 years, the gallery is open Wednesday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Critiques are held at 10:30 a.m. on third Tuesdays and the last Saturday of each month. Local artists are welcome to bring one or two works-in-progress for a free critique and helpful hints.
