ST. PETERSBURG – The Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation will host the third annual One Step Closer to the Cure 5K Run/Walk, set for Saturday, Sept. 14, at Albert Whitted Park, 480 Bayshore Drive SE.
The event will kick off at 7 a.m. Proceeds will benefit the Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation.
This community event will feature several types of challenges in which any age can participate and help find a cure.
There will be a 5K Run/Walk, a 1-Mile Fun Run, and the Overcoming Obstacles Challenge. More than 1,400 participants are expected.
“One in 70 women in Tampa Bay will develop ovarian cancer,” said Claudette Carlan in a press release. Carlan is foundation chairperson.
“Our goal is to fight this disease through early detection, treatment and research. Bring your family and come out and join the fun while supporting a worthy cause.”
Proceeds go toward the goals of the Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation. The foundation sponsors research, assists in the development of an early detection test and in prevention efforts, educates the community and offers financial assistance to patients fighting ovarian cancer.
