ST. PETERSBURG – The fourth annual Huntington’s 5K Twilight Ghost Run & Walk will be presented Saturday, Oct. 19, 5:30 p.m., at Fit2Run, 256 Second St.
This fun-filled healthy multi event for the entire family will involve a chip-timed 5K run for runners with or without strollers; a chip-timed 5K for doggies with their owners on a leash; a one mile Team Hope fitness walk with or without pets and the Kid’s Ghost Monster Dashes.
There will be Ghost Monster Dashes for children of all ages starting at 4:45 p.m. The 3- to 4-year-olds will run 100 meters; 5- to 6-year-olds will run 200 meters; the 7- to 9-year-olds will run 400 meters; and the 10- to 12-year-olds will run 800 meters. All of the children receive a Ghost Monster T-shirt, finishers’ medal, running bib, and goodie bag, plus winners who place first, second and third, will receive engraved trophies.
The 1-mile pet friendly Team Hope Ghost walk starts at 5:35 p.m. after the 5K Run start. All walkers with or without their pets will receive a unique Huntington’s Ghost shirt and finishers medal. Doggies receive their own performance doggie bandana.
The feature 5K run event for adults and kids commences at 5:30 p.m. The 5K run is chip timed and proceeds from Fit2Run on paved roadway to Downtown St. Petersburg, up and down the Pier then south on Bayshore Drive to Dan Weldon Way, and back to the finish on Second Street North and Third Avenue North to a post race spooky party. There is a second start at 5:35 p.m. for the doggies with their owners on a leash. The doggies wear the timing chip, which is unique for the region.
Proceeds will benefit the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to improving the lives of everyone affected by this disease. The society works tirelessly to provide family services, education, advocacy and research to provide help for the more than 30,000 people diagnosed with HD and the 250,000 at-risk in the United States.
