PALM HARBOR – The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System opened its newest location in northern Pinellas County on Dec. 15.
The new clinic is located at 35209 U.S. Hwy. 19 N. in Palm Harbor and replaces the current location on 1721 Main Street in Dunedin.
"This upgrade will greatly enhance the quality of life for our Veterans in need of medical care and meet the needs of a growing Veterans' population in the area," said U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, a member of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, Florida’s 9th District.
The new Palm Harbor VA clinic property is leased by the Department of Veterans Affairs, from Springhill Partners LLC at an estimated annual cost of $169,000 for a minimum of 7 years. It is significantly larger than the Dunedin Clinic, at a total of 9,999 square feet (about 4,400 more square feet than the prior clinic) and includes expanded primary care services, mental healthcare, audiology, social work services, laboratory specimen collection, and a pharmacist for medication consultation.
The clinic was designed to provide gender specific care for our female veterans, which includes larger rooms, better layouts for privacy, and adjacent restrooms.
Last year, 5,930 veterans sought care at the Dunedin VA Clinic and more than 30,600 visits were conducted. The new location and expansion in services will allow for additional patient capacity at the new clinic.
