TREASURE ISLAND – Suntan Art Center will host Jean Teasley’s popular two-day Serti silk painting class on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 16 and 17, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Teasley’s pieces adorn walls and clothing all over the country and she has studied with some of the most talented people in the art.
Serti is the ancient technique of outlining a design on tightly stretched silk with an impenetrable substance and then coloring in the spaces between with dye. Beautiful designs are achieved through the use of patterns or freehand drawings.
The course is a hands on experience that is appropriate for those with no art experience as well as the most accomplished artists. Fabrics and dyes are supplied, and everyone creates and completes their own scarf, table runner or wall hanging.
Cost is $70 for Suntan members and $80 for nonmembers. There is an additional $35 materials fee. Space is limited and reservations are required. Teasley will offer another workshop on March 2 and 3. For reservations, call 381-7914.
The center also will offer a decorative furniture painting workshop on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 23 and 24, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The workshop will be conducted by Pat Chase, an accomplished painter, ceramist, jewelry designer and muralist. Chase will guide participants through the process of creating a faux finished piece.
Cost is $70 for Suntan members and $80 for nonmembers. There is an additional $15 materials fee. Participants should bring an item to finish. For reservations, call 521-6223.
Suntan Art Center is at 139 107th Ave.
