LARGO – The Gulf Coast Museum of Art hosts Liquid Metal from Feb. 23 through May 4. An opening reception is set for Friday, Feb. 22, 7 p.m., which will be preceded by an artist talk, 6:30 p.m., in the auditorium.
To R.S.V.P., call 518-6833, ext. 207, or e-mail psriram@gulfcoastmuseum.org. The Gulf Coast Museum of Art is at 12211 Walsingham Road.
The museum has engaged Florida metal-smiths James Liccione, Robert Coon and Carol Jenrette, to collaborate in developing a major interior and exterior exhibition of metalwork. The exhibition will feature outdoor sculpture by Coon; fine, functional furniture by Liccione and exquisite jewelry by Jenrette.
Coon, a Vero Beach artist, is known for his large-scale outdoor sculpture, working with abstract shapes, fluid lyrical contours and vibrant colors inspired by nature. His unusually graceful and spontaneous shapes reflect his background in drawing and painting. With an exhibition history spanning over 30 years, his work has been exhibited internationally and is included in numerous private collections, universities and museums.
Liccione has cultivated a distinct style that takes form in functional furniture. Forging iron and steel into delicate ribbons and twisted vines, along with the use of rich patinas and elements of wood, his romantic furniture comes alive with energetic lines that take shape while he works. Liccione resides in Vero Beach where he teaches metal and foundry work at the Vero Beach Museum of Art and Indian River Community College.
Jenrette, a jewelry designer, resides in Seminole. Jenrette has had a career in jewelry and metalwork that spans 30 years with international acclaim. As a member of the Florida Society of Goldsmiths, Jenrette’s work is innovative and modern in style, mostly creating work for private clients.
