Dali Museum exhibits student surrealist art
Article published on Thursday, March 2, 2006 |
ST. PETERSBURG – The Salvador Dali Museum is displaying artwork from Pinellas County Schools’ students through Sunday, April 9, in the Raymond James Community Room.
The annual exhibition presents the work of middle and high school students demonstrating the ongoing popularity and attraction of surrealism for new generations of artists. Art teachers conduct lessons on Dali and surrealism and sometimes use field trips as a way to prepare their students for the exhibit. Each teacher is allowed eight entries, with one work from each student. The museum regularly receives about 300 entries out of which 100 are chosen for exhibit.
A private reception will honor these students on Wednesday, March 8, 6 to 8 p.m., with awards presented at 6:45 p.m. to magnet program and traditional students in different categories. On display and receiving recognition this year are two new categories including 3D and video.
Free admission to the Dali Museum will be extended to student artists, their families and school personnel on the night of the reception.
The museum is at 1000 Third St. S. Call Sterling Ivey at 638-2134.
