“Heritage Village” by Helen Mullins.
TREASURE ISLAND – The Treasure Island Art Guild’s Winter/Spring Art Show features five local artists through May 21 at the Treasure Island Community Center.

They include Danee Kinzel, Bruce Kotchey, Stan Krupa, Helen Mullins and Patricia Trahey.

Kinzel, a Florida native, uses pastels and a passion for “typical Florida landscapes” in her works of art. “The Rivers’ Edge” pulls the viewer to a place that transcends reality. “Standing Water” and “Golden Afternoon” match swaying palms against delicate cumulous skies. The state of Maine embraces “Springtime in Gorman Park.”

Emerging from the “joy of challenges” while working with a variety of media and subject matter, Kotchey, with a masterful application of colored pencils shows a vibrant “Stone Walled.” Pen and ink exhibits a striking “Snowcat.” A flowing “Season Change” and contemporary “Star Cluster” are fine examples of mixed media.

Krupa, an eclectic artists who is “always in love with life” dazzles viewers with a sampling of acrylic and collage abstracts. “Snowbirds” and “Construction” achieve balance in color, texture, and form. A stunning “Sunset” celebrates day’s end and linear forms in “Quiet Vision” successfully suggest a placid, collected pace.

Art lovers can experience the skilled artistry of Mullins as she tells her stories in oils with a keen sensitivity to contrasting tones and composition in “Gulfport Garage,” “Gulfport Market Day” and a 1920’s era H.C. Smith grocery store in “Heritage Village.” An encore of her lush palette gives us a stoic “Pelican” waiting for leftovers from a neighboring bait house.

Accomplished oil painter Trahey, is inspired to “put the viewer in a place of pure joy” with vivid hues, as seen in blues legend “Me and Lucille, BB King” and “After the Dance,” a striking portrait, posed to pull your gaze into a sense of wonderment. Experience a unique “Sunset on the Gulf” through a glass of wine. An endearing moment in “My Buddy” permeates the senses.

The Treasure Island Community center is located on 106th Avenue, east of Gulf Boulevard.
