DUNEDIN - New quilts make up a triplet of exhibits opening with a reception on Friday, June 12, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Dunedin Fine Art Center. Admission is $5 and free for members. The exhibit continues through Aug. 9.
Fresh from The National Quilt Museum comes its bi-annual international quilt competition featuring contemporary quilts fashioned from traditional patterns. This year’s offering is Sawtooth: New Quilts from an Old Favorite.
Inspired by the traditional pieced sawtooth pattern, the quiltmakers have modified the design in imaginative ways, providing a wonderful look at the skills, techniques and creativity of today's quiltmakers.
The art center’s resident quilting guild, Innovative Quilters, present their bi-annual themed exhibition taking a look at sometimes very personal worlds in Explorations, an exhibition of journal quilts. These small quilts are filled with experimental techniques and personal tales.
The third exhibition is actually another offering of small quilts from the Innovative Quilters. The quilts are offered in a silent auction to benefit the educational programs at the art center.
Also at the art center is the 2008-09 hands-on installation in the David L. Mason Children’s Art Museum, Dreamscapes: Windows to Other Worlds, which explores the realm of dreams, real and imagined with artists such as Dali, Magritte, and Rousseau as departure points.
The art center is at 1143 Michigan Blvd. Call 298-3322 or visit www.dfac.org.
