ST. PETERSBURG - Anne Frank: A History for Today and A Private Photo Album from the New York-based Anne Frank Center USA Inc. is on display at the Florida Holocaust Museum through Dec. 23.

The exhibits depict Anne Frank’s life including text from her journal, personal photographs of the Frank family, and features a writing lab for visitors to journal their own thoughts.

“Anne Frank’s story is so important because it shows us, through the eyes of a child, what happens when hate and evil prevail,” said Shelly Mizrahi, director of communications for the Florida Holocaust Museum. “The Museum strives to educate the public so that this will not happen again.”

Anne Frank’s parents gave her a red and white plaid diary for her 13th birthday. It is now one of the most well-known memoirs of the Holocaust. Her diary is available in 66 languages and more than 40 million copies have been sold worldwide.

The essence of Anne Frank’s message is a universal symbol of tolerance, strength, and hope in the face of adversity. It is a symbol transcending all cultures and ages that conveys the idea that discrimination and intolerance are dangerous and wrong.

St. Petersburg Little Theater is presenting "The Diary of Anne Frank" by Frances Goodrich & Albert Hackett Oct. 26th to Nov. 11. More information about the play can be found at www.splt.info.

Shorcrest Preparatory School is presenting "Anne Frank and Me" Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. and part of the ticket sales will benefit the Florida Holocaust Museum. For more information, please contact the school at 727-522-2111.
