This week, the guild introduces two artists, newly elected guild president Peter Garino, and Grace Porter.
Garino came to the area from Patterson, N.J., after a military career. Over the years he has “managed the guild’s portrait workshop and brings fresh ideas for this new responsibility,” a guild news release said.
Garino offers two colorful acrylics, a portrait and a seascape.
“But his two oils stand out because of the composition and the color. ‘Patterson Falls’ show dramatic value contrasts, and ‘Florida Mailbox’ beautifully contrasts the hot sun on concrete with the shaded mailbox and entryway,” the guild said.
Porter majored in fine arts at Northwestern University and has taught oil painting for years.
“Her control of color is evident in the two Florida landscapes she has chosen, ‘Caladesi Island’ and ‘Island Paradise.’ Her two florals, softly rendered ‘Irises’ and a dramatic ‘Purple Vase’ show her versatility and traditional training,” the guild said.
The Community Center is at Park Street and 106th Avenue. Call the Recreation Department at 547-4575.
