DUNEDIN - Sally Robertshaw: Book Artist is the October featured artist at the Dunedin Fine Art Center's Coffee and Conversation on Thursday, Oct. 11, noon.
Today, many people are surprised to find that it is possible to make a book by hand. A real book, with a hard cover, and pages and a spine! But if we begin by looking at examples of early books, we find there are lots of possibilities that don't look at all like the books of today - and we can make those too. From the cave walls and clay tablets to todays computer discs, one can only wonder....... what will tomorrow's books be like?
What makes handmade books special is that the book you make is just the way you want it. It's unique. The size, style, configuration, paper and binding are all in your hands. Join Robertshaw as she leads a demonstration on the art of handmade books.
Robertshaw has been involved with calligraphy since 1966, teaching at the Worcester Art Museum, the Cambridge Center for Adult Education and at workshops from Boston to Taipei. Her many talents include bookbinding, paper marbling, paste papers, paperfolding, Chinese calligraphy and much more. She currently offers Book Arts classes at the Dunedin Fine Art Center.
