DUNEDIN - For 26 years, the Dunedin Fine Arts Center has been lighting up the holidays.
DFAC reconfigures itself Nov. 3, in its holiday finest, albeit with a decidedly artistic flair. The centerpiece is undoubtedly the invitational exhibition, this year entitled, Behold!
On a yearly basis, DFAC curators look to put together the best art, with a gift-giving perspective in mind. The result is a collection of works from around the country that any of your friends or relatives would be delighted to find under their tree.
Works will be displayed by more than 100 artists, including Brooke Allison, Holly Bird, Wendy Durand, Erin Furimsky, Denis Gaston, Susan Gehring, Dominice Gilbert, Martha Grover, Shane Hoffman, Amanda Hunter, Taylor Ikin, Jeff Kleckner, Michelle Mardis, Susan Maxon, David McKirdy, Melissa Miller Nece, Leslie Neumann , Stacy Perry, Rose Marie Prins, Arlene Richardson, Lori Rosenberger, Gainor Roberts, Veronica Stewart, Wendy Thurlow, Jennifer Weaver, Michael Wille, Glenn Woods and Gail Wynne.
Add to that some exceptionally decorated themed trees and a selection of hard-to-find gifts with something for just about everyone, and you begin to get the idea of what this much-anticipated holiday tradition is all about.
Tradition has it, for this exhibit only, that purchases can go home with you. See a painting you want, take it off the wall. Like those hand-made ornaments on that tree, grab them and take them to a cashier.
This exhibit traditionally opens the same week as Art Harvest, the long-standing art fair hosted adjacent to the Dunedin Fine Art Center by the Junior League of Dunedin/Clearwater. The sheer numbers involved make for a joyous yearly kick-off of the holiday season.
DFAC is opened extended holiday hours, including a full day on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be special events and other offerings, so check the DFAC website at www.dfac.org for complete details.
Behold! - 26th annual holiday show and sale continues through Dec. 21. Admission is free. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Palm Café is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Closed Sunday.
