ST. PETE BEACH - Suntan Art Center presents The Beauty of Florida, a solo exhibition of artwork by Gabriela Valencia, on display Nov. 10-30.
An artist's opening reception on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m., at the Mary Nabors Gallery. Admission is free to the public, including light refreshments.
Valencia 's paintings take inspiration from the local environment, beach scenes, flora and fauna of Florida, using different mediums such as oil on canvas, acrylic and pastels.
Her artwork invites the viewer to look at Florida through a palette of blue, turquoise, green, and aqua colors or take a relaxing walk to the beach in your mind when viewing her paintings.
About the artist
Valencia was born in Guayaquil Ecuador and started drawing and painting at age 5. She quickly realized she had a passion for expressing the world around her on paper and canvas. At age 12, she attended summer art camps to continue her education and lean about art. At age 14 she started Juan J. Plaza high school for the arts. At this time, she also studied classical violin learning the music of such masters as Bach and Beethoven.
After High School, Valencia went on to study advertising with an emphasis on art at the Vicente Rocafuerte University in Guayaquil Ecuador receiving her degree in 2000.
After college, she went on to teach music and art at the prestigious Logos Academy an international private school for world studies. In 2008, Valencia moved to the Tampa Bay area to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming an independent artist. She currently does art shows, around South Florida as a member of Suntan Art Center, The Pastel Society of Tampa Bay and a member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists.
