"The Balcony," acrylic on canvas, by Rita Slaght Gould
ST. PETERSBURG - Artists Gallery Royale's next show, "Italian Palette," opening on Saturday, Nov. 12, will feature acrylic painting by Rita Slaught Gould.
The show will continue through Dec. 7. Gallery hours are 10 to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
The gallery will host an artist's reception on Nov. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. Wine and refreshments will be served.
Gould has a doctorate in medieval and renaissance literature. Her fluency in the Italian language fired a passion for travel to Italy, which created an interest in painting Italian architectural scenes.
The majority of the Italian works emphasize perspective and texture while depicting the play of light and color over brick, stonework and peeling stucco, creating an ambiance of age and decay, yet timelessness.
Acrylics are the artist's medium of choice because pigment can be applied thickly with a brush or palette knife for texture, or the pigment can be watered down for a looser effect.
