Fine Arts Friday is Friday, Dec. 7, 6 to 10 p.m. in the 2800 block of Beach Boulevard in Gulfport.
GULFPORT - Gulfport’s long established First Friday Art Walk has evolved with the addition of a block of Beach Boulevard devoted specifically to working fine artists and artisans.
Fine Arts Friday will create an exclusive enclave in the 2800 block of Beach Boulevard in which local artists chosen by a selection committee will show their work and demonstrate their techniques while interacting with visitors. The second “Fine Arts Friday” series will take place on Friday, Dec. 7, 6 to 10 p.m. The next event is Jan. 4.
Art Walk is a cherished tradition in Gulfport, occurring on the first Friday and third Saturday of each month for many years. Local artists and crafters, including favorite regular vendors, will continue to appear throughout Beach Boulevard for Art Walk on each occasion. But organizers of “Fine Arts Friday” were interested in adding a roster of carefully selected artists and artisans intended to appeal to discerning art enthusiasts.
Most of these artists and artisans will also demonstrate their craft during the course of the evening, interacting with visitors and answering questions. All items on display in the block of “Fine Arts Friday” will consist exclusively of hand-created items by the artists themselves. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be available in a reception area at Salon M, 2820 Beach Boulevard South. There is never a fee for Admission or Parking.
Artists scheduled to appear are Jason Bourgholtzer (torch work/glass) Peter Bourgoine (wood turning), Nancy Cervenka (film sculpture), Marie Gagne (millinery), Derrick Johnson (metal and painting), Todd Jones (clay, pottery), Mary Joyner (precious metal clay, illustration and painting), Mel Lowe (photography), Owen Pach (metal forging), Billie and Brennan Rodriguez (mother and daughter, aka “Funny Face Farms”) (fiber spinning), Jonathan Schork (mixed media/plaster sculpture forms), John Shevlin (painting), Victoria Wenners (drawing/mosaics), Linda and Matt Worsham (mother and son, aka “Gypsy Cat Creations”) (mixed media sculpture).
