Local author describes unlikely friendship

CLEARWATER – Some say that opposites attract, and Clearwater author Carrie Vanerio tells the story of an unlikely friendship in her new book, "Jack and Al: A Story About Two Grandpas and Their Boots."

Published by Tate Publishing and Enterprises, Vanerio's book teaches young readers that even conservative Al and extravagant Jack, two retired grandpas who love the game of golf, can be friends in spite of their differences.

Al concocts a plan to buy rubber boots, wade in the swamps and "gig" for golf balls.  Even though Jack thinks the plan is crazy, they go to the store to buy the boots when Jack discovers that Al only intends to buy one pair.   The author reveals how this new venture teaches similarities between the two men and strengthens their friendship.

"Jack and Al are true characters and I chose to notate their story because I was moved by them," Vanerio said. "It is ironic that I felt like I was watching my dad (Jack) reinvent himself in his retirement, while I, too, was reinventing myself.   I decided to write my father's story about reinventing himself while having a good time at it."

The book is available at any bookstore nationwide or can be ordered through the publisher at www.tatepublishing.com/bookstore or by visiting barnesandnoble.com, amazon.com or target.com. This is also an eLIVE title, meaning each printed copy contains a code redeemable for a free audio version from TatePublishing.com.

Vanerio currently resides in Clearwater and has spent many years in the sales and advertisement industry.
