ST. PETERSBURG - The 17th Annual St. Petersburg Times Festival of Reading is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg.

The free festival is a celebration of literacy- featuring nationally renowned authors, book signings, panel discussions and a variety of entertainment.  The USF St. Petersburg campus is located in downtown St. Petersburg, and attendees may utilize campus and downtown parking, giving easy access to all events throughout the day.

The Times Festival of Reading has drawn an annual attendance of approximately 5,000 reading enthusiasts through the course of its history.  Past authors have included best-sellers such as: Carl Hiaasen, Michael Connelly, Dennis Lehane, Candace Bushnell, R.L. Stine and Arianna Huffington.

To date, over 45 authors are confirmed to appear at the 2009 Festival. In addition to the author appearances, there will be an extensive Book Market, food and drink concessions, and family activities.

The complete line-up of authors and activities will be posted on www.festivalofreading.com and also published in a special section in the St. Petersburg Times on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009.

At this time, organizers are seeking booksellers and vendors of literacy-related merchandise to be part of the Book Market. Applications can be downloaded from the Times Festival of Reading Web site at www.festivalofreading.com or requested by leaving a name, address and phone number on the Festival of Reading information line at 727-892-2358. Sponsorship opportunities are also available, and inquiries can be made to the information line.
